Three scam warnings (phone and email)

Member Margaret J. has kindly shared a warning about some scams she came across recently.
  1. ' I received two emails from "my bank" to say my statements were ready to download. Normally I only get them twice a year and not mid-year so SCAM, I say.
  2. I had someone on the phone yesterday saying they were a charity doing a survey. Well, I don’t mind doing surveys, so I let her carry on. She asked me to confirm I was in Australia and all I muttered was "mmmm" then she asked if it was Western Australia and again I "muttered". The next question I hung up before she actually got into the question. SCAM, I say.
  3. I also had a reminder about something but cannot remember what it was now but the email came to me twice in my above email address and twice in another email address that I have BUT the company that supposedly sent the emails do not have my other address so again I say SCAM.

'It seems to be a never-ending thing that is happening no matter how hard we try to watch out for these scams, there are still going to be people caught out.'

'As for my bank, I decided to go personally to see if they had sent any emails and they just said it is a scam and to delete them, I already had. I had even tried phoning them no answer "leave a message and we will get back to you in the next working day". It was a weekday I was ringing them on.

'I am well over 80 years old, but fortunately, I am aware of all these scams, but it is not to say that one day I may not be so alert.'

A huge thank you to member Margaret J. for bringing these to our attention!

There’s a lot more round. One where it looks like a PayPal invoice for you to pay and then there’s a phone no to cancel. If you ring the number it asks you if you have an apple or android phone & wants you to go into your Apple account. I told them what so you can access my phone they hung up. I’ve had this one a couple of times now the first time I said I would ring PayPal to confirm it which I did.
SCAM.
Another supposed to be a bank to tell you to confirm a payment. Yes or no. And it’s not even with the bank you bank with. SCAM.
email saying to pay a Norton or McAfee invoice SCAM.
Another one was from Telstra (if you can believe them) saying that my account had been hacked and my emails etc want safe and they been made public for all the world to see. I’m not even with Telstra & told them F off I’m not even with Telstra.

I get quite a lot too, but there is one saying that all my photos etc will be deleted because my CLOUD is full. I have no such thing.
Another one is PayPal, I don't have PayPal.
Then yesterday I got a call trying tomsell me big savings on my electricity, I think I might buy myself a whistle and give them a blast down the phone.

Have to laugh, just had call from a bank saying that I am overdrawn and needed to make a payment. Told them to go right ahead because I dont bank with them anyway.

Everyday I receive a phone call an (02)......... 1 about 11:30am and the other about 4:00ish Each time I let them ring through Then I call back immediately and the automated voice says "this number is not connected please check your number" I have blocked all the numbers that come through, but some how there is a different one the next day.....and the same thing happens. I have a saying now, "My drug dealer is calling" (joke)

I am receiving at least 3/4 scam emails everyday at the moment, I just delete them as soon as I see them.

I get a call from an 02 number every few days, and a recorded message (female voice) says 'This is Visa Card Security" and they're calling me about two transactions that have been made with my Visa card (they use the same two amounts every time), and they want me to press 1 to speak to their specialist who will be able to secure my account against further fraudulent transactions.
SCAM.
Now I disconnect the call as soon as that bot says Visa Security". So far I have block 5 different 02 numbers associated with this scam.
The NOrton scam was so persistent, I finally closed the email account that was being bombarded with their emails.

It's called 'spoofing' where the scammer uses what looks like a legitimate phone number that isn't!

The other callers to be wary of are those who ring from unknown numbers and say "is this [so and so]?"
DO NOT SAY YES.
This is another scam that is doing to rounds. These cold callers call up and ask this question, and they are recording the call - and you, your voice, saying 'yes'.
They then use that recorded 'yes' to 'sign you up' for this, that, and everything else, and before you know it, you owe people money; and they have you agreeing to the purchase - whatever it was - on tape.
So if you get a call from a stranger, and they ask you if you are you, by name, say 'Who's asking?"
If they come back at you with some other question like 'is your address [whatever]?", again - they are fishing for that very important YES response. So answer with something like 'why do you want to know?'
If you can keep countering these leading questions, they will eventually hang up (unless. of course, you're tired of the game and want to disconnect and end it early).
But you get the picture, I hope.
DO NOT ANSWER YES/NO QUESTIONS FROM STRANGERS WITH A YES.

I want to say a big THANK YOU for the regular updates on the latest scams. I'm receiving at least three fraudulent messages a day &, instead of being afraid, I recognise report & block.
Thank you,
Pat

When they ask for my name I usually ask them to tell me since it was they that called me so they should know!

I get lots of scam and spam emails. The worst ones are of a sexualising nature. NO I don't want to enlarge my penis and NO I don't want a sexy bride

I get these too and have no need for either, no equipment on the first and not 'confused' on the second! I never get them from 'men' offering their services and promising me endless pleasure :cry:
