When we think of dieting, we often imagine a variety of foods, carefully balanced to meet our nutritional needs while helping us shed unwanted pounds. But what if I told you that one man's diet consisted solely of sardines for 70 days? Yes, you read that right – just sardines, complemented by a dash of plant oil. This unusual dietary journey has yielded some truly astonishing results.

Meet Jane, a 62-year-old health coach and former paramedic, who stood at 5ft 7in and weighed 13 stone (182 lbs) in May. With a BMI that placed her in the overweight category, Jane was determined to make a change. She embarked on a radical diet consisting exclusively of tinned sardines and MCT oil, a type of plant oil derived from palm kernels and coconuts. Her goal was not only to lose weight but also to alleviate the excruciating pain of plantar fasciitis, a common foot condition that causes heel and arch pain, especially when walking.

The results? Within just 10 days, Jane had lost nearly a stone (14 lbs), which she attributed to fluid loss. By day 70, she had dropped to 11 stone and 7 lbs (161 lbs) – just a mere 2 lbs shy of reaching a healthy weight for her height. But the benefits didn't stop at weight loss. Jane reported that her foot pain had significantly decreased, going 'from a 10, to a two' on her personal pain scale.

Jane's diet was simple yet strict. She consumed four tins of sardines each day, along with two tablespoons of MCT oil at every meal, ensuring her caloric intake never exceeded 1500 calories per day. This is below the NHS's recommended daily intake of 2000 calories for women to maintain weight, which likely contributed to her weight loss.

Starting her day with a tin of sardines at 8 am, Jane would then 'double up' at lunchtime with two tins and four tablespoons of MCT oil. Her last meal of the day was consumed before 3 pm, after which she fasted until the next morning. This regimen not only helped her lose weight but also curbed her hunger and snacking habits. 'I didn't have the need to wonder where my next meal was going to be, or where it was going to come from. I wasn't munchy and going to the cupboard... it was like this lightbulb that went off. I'm not hungry — I don't need to eat,' Jane explained.

Throughout her journey, Jane monitored her blood sugar levels, which showed a healthy decline from 9mmol/l before the experiment to between 6 and 7mmol/l. This drop brought her levels into a healthier range, reducing her risk of type 2 diabetes.

Despite the monotony of her diet, Jane expressed contentment with her sardine-centric meals and planned to continue her dietary experiment. Sardines are a powerhouse of nutrition, packed with protein, vitamin D, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for bone strength, muscle maintenance, and potentially brain health.

While Jane's results are impressive, it's important to note that such a restrictive diet may not be suitable for everyone and could lead to nutritional deficiencies without careful planning and supplementation. Before embarking on any extreme diet, it's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional.
Key Takeaways

  • Jane, the health guru, reported shedding two stone and reducing her foot pain significantly after 70 days on the sardine diet.
  • She incorporated a daily multivitamin supplement to ensure sufficient nutrition and controlled her calorie intake to 1500 per day.

No surprises here. Suggesting it is restrictive is counter productive. We aren't supposed to be eating 3/4 of what is on the supermarket shelves. Total rubbish most of it. Many people only eat meat with salt and drink water. They ended up healthy. Don't know of anyone who has died from it yet. I don't do veg or fruit any more. Might have a bit at Christmas. We don't need to eat carbs (which are fruit and veg and anything in a box at the supermarket) and we eon't need seed oils. You could do MCT oil but you could do without it and still get the same result. And don't get me started on supplements. No supplements needed other than a bit of electrolytes at the start.

I thought this article was going to be about the woman in question grew a rudimentary penis.

Then again, there was a report many years ago where a young woman experienced a breast size increase from 34B to 38DD in several months by undertaking a certain sexual activity with her boyfriend.

So anything can happen!

I would say it works. My doctor told me that losing 10 kg would probably eliminate many of the symptoms of type 2 diabetes. He was right - both times I lost the weight through keto or holiday walking, my health improved. MCT (or the cheaper coconut oil) produce ketones which power your brain with clean fuel. MCT is also a source of high fat, which is required on the keto diet. Sardines are much underrated little beasts , full on nutrition and small enough not to be affected by mercury.

Impossible to maintain this but now easy to transition to a keto or carnivore (all meat) diet. I need some variety so carnivore is not for me. See Dr Berg on YouTube or his app for amazing health tips found in few other places - have an ailment ? Dr Berg has a video on that.

Plus. just losing the weight allows you to feel better about yourself and then the actually WANT to exercise.

My kids' paediatrician swore on sardines and peanut butter, especially for growing kids.
Contains almost everything. I love sardines and so does my Snowshoe cat - she gets a heaped tablespoon every night for dinner!

Nothing new, in case you forgot - EVERY pregnant woman has a natural breast enlargement! 😁

Give it a rest @Lizzie1149. Do what you want, but don’t preach your dangerous dietary nonsense to others. You’ve said it all before and it’s still as unhealthy as ever. The quacks that you base your “knowledge” on are just money grabbers. Dr Steven Gundry springs to mind. What a scammer!

Try doing a course on real dietary needs and nutrition that are based on facts and proven research. Or you can remain in ignorant bliss.
