Yes, I clean my kettle on a regular basis. I own a Russell Hobbs brand and it's instructions say to use a couple of teaspoons of citric acid and fill the kettle to the max level and boil. I use McKenzie's brand as it's food safe. I clean my mother's kettle too.
I do the same but with lemon.

No, it is not connected to the water supply and yes, you have to fill a clear plastic container with water. If you scroll up to the two photos of the wateer dispenser you can see the water container clearly on the photo on the right.

Where this gadget excells is that instead of waiting for five or more minutes for your kettle to boil, you simply put water into the water container, press the on button and the machine instantly heats and dispenses water it draws from the container. There is a choice of temperatures and amount up to mug size. It may not be quite as convenient as a hot water dispenser that is built into the sink, but it's a great substitute at little cost.

I love my hot water dispenser and have retired the kettle.
Thankyou @ Trudi. You echoed everything l was thinking as l read the main article. I see this as a necessity for someone living alone & is conscious of spending on electricity etc. $69 two years ago to $75 now is a reasonable price rise. What is hard about placing a small amount of water into this apparatus using a small plastic jug?

Using lemon or lemon juice is a long known cleaning method for cleaning kettles. As for rinsing, surely putting water in it & boiling once is enough? If the 1st drink after that tastes like a bit of lemon, so what? No different to adding lemon separately to a drink, isn't it?

I was thinking of getting one, so went and had a look. Basically it's just a superfast kettle. You will be constantly filling it up. No good for catering for a large number of people. Will be getting an URN instead.

Had one for months, wouldn't be without it!

Looks just like the Lavazza Jolie Coffee Machine, minus the coffee! Imagine your disappointment if you got up in the morning, put the coffee on only to get water 😂
