This 5-in-1 salad maker from Kmart is dividing the internet

In the world of kitchen gadgets, there's always a new appliance claiming to make our culinary lives a breeze.

The latest to stir up a storm in the world of home cooks is Kmart's 5-in-1 electric salad maker. This nifty device, priced $35, promises to slice, dice, and grate your way to easier meal prep.

But as with any product, it's received a mixed salad of reviews, leaving many to wonder if it's the right addition to their kitchen arsenal.

For those who haven't yet encountered this multi-functional marvel, the 5-in-1 salad maker has five cones designed to tackle various chopping tasks.

It's a gadget that some described as the 'best thing ever' for its ability to simplify the preparation of fresh salads and other dishes.

One of the most vocal groups of supporters are parents who've found that the salad maker not only saves time but also encourages their children to get involved in the kitchen. 'Makes my kids want to help so it’s a yes from us,' one user commented.

Moreover, the device has been a boon for individuals with physical limitations. 'My dad has one due to severe arthritis, and he uses it all the time,' a satisfied customer shared.

The salad maker's versatility extends beyond vegetables, with some users creatively adapting it for other kitchen tasks.

One clever trick involves grating large blocks of cheese, portioning them into bags, and freezing them for later use. This saves money and avoids the additives found in pre-grated cheese from the supermarket.

However, not all feedback has been glowing.

Some users have reported that the appliance requires excessive pressure to operate effectively, with one reviewer commenting, ‘You have to push quite hard to get… through the feed tube and it takes forever to get even a small amount. Much quicker on the old box grater and less cleaning up.’

Other reviewers have lamented the product's effectiveness by saying, ‘Mush! That’s all I got when trying to slice some celery, cucumbers, capsicum, and snow peas… I used the correct cutter according to the instructions and the machine just kinda mushed them up.’

There have also been concerns about the build quality, with a few customers experiencing issues with the plastic components wearing down or the difficulty of removing the blade cones.

Another reviewer said, ‘The plastic spines get in the way of the food grating and gum up the feed chute and cutter... You get what you pay for I guess.’

Despite these criticisms, most reviewers still recommend the salad maker as a budget-friendly option. The product has a 4.4 / 5-star rating on Kmart’s website.

'Highly recommend for a cheap alternative,' an enthusiastic shopper said. 'Cheaply made and will break but for the price, get it,’ another added.

Purchased this useless gadget and the front plastic attachment broke using it for the first time. I used it to grate cheese. It is only suitable for something soft such as an onion in which case you may as well chop up using a knife or grate using a grater.
