This ‘hidden’ pricing detail in stores could help you save some cash!

A shopper recently had a frustrating experience at Kmart and shared it on Facebook. It turns out that she noticed something interesting while looking at two pairs of shoes - one for kids and one for ladies.

Even though they were almost identical in style and both size five, there was a $5 difference between the two. The larger kids' shoes were priced at $15, while the smaller women's shoes were $20.

It's easy to miss this pricing detail, but it understandably left the customer feeling confused.

The shopper couldn't believe it and took to social media, pointing out that both shoes were the same brand, make, and almost identical in style - except for the pattern.

While it did save her a few dollars, she was still left questioning why there was such a difference in price between two almost identical pairs of shoes.

When a news source reached out to Kmart for a response to the incident, a spokesperson for the retail store had this to say: 'At Kmart, we are dedicated to giving our customers easy access to the everyday items they need at the lowest possible price.'

They went on to explain that pricing for their products is based on a number of factors, including size ranges. While the size 5 from both the kids and adult styles may seem similar, the spokesperson clarified that this is not reflective of the entire size range, and pricing is adjusted accordingly.

Who knows? You may just find the perfect item for yourself at a fraction of the cost!

Boys' plain T-shirts can be a great option for women who wear up to a size 8, and they're often not see-through like many women's styles are. Sleeve length can be tricky, so stick to short-sleeve shirts and tank tops to play it safe.

Keep in mind that children and adults have different body types, so try on items before buying them, or make sure the company has a good return policy.

Luckily, shoes are more straightforward. Use the handy shoe size conversion charts on Zappos.com to find your 'kid-size', which can save you some money compared to buying the adult version.

For example, if you're a women's size 7.5, you're a size 6 in 'big kid' size, according to the website. Just keep in mind that kids' shoes do tend to run narrow, so try them on first to make sure they fit comfortably.

And there you have it! By using these tips, you can potentially score some great deals on kid's clothing that work for adults. So why not give it a try? You might just be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

When I first started work in Scotland I was given the tip that it was always cheaper to buy from the children’s department as there was no sales tax on children’s clothes. So if there were identical items, the adult’s department was dearer. Children’s sizes went up to 16 in clothes, not sure about shoe sizes.

I just used the link to the shoe size converter however there is no Australian sizing option. I’m originally from the UK so had to use that sizing option.

when I was young ,a long time ago. I had to shop in kids department. I was 6 and half stone [41kg] for years and only 4foot 11. It was hard to get anything to fit.

I was recently in Bundaberg Qld, My Sister wanted to buy a jumper from Rockmans, I think she paid $25, and I quite liked the jumper myself, but decided to get a different colour, and mine was $35. It was on the same rack, stating the whole rack was $25, I did query it, and the sales girl went to get her manager, and I was told the price was correct, it must have been a different colour. I thought it was a load of crap that they were telling me, BUT, I know for sure, I won't buy anything in that store again.

I’ve alway bought plain t-shirts, jackets, track pants and sweat shirts in the mens wear section because they are cheaper than womenswear. The only problem is choice of colour but this is improving these days.

I shop in the menswear section for trackies, t-shirts and shorts, because the clothing is better made and cheaper than women's 'fashion' wear.

I have v small feet and will buy kids things and slippers but find the shoes have the instep in the wrong spot for an adult

About 90% of my shoes came from the kids department in whatever shop I happened to be in. the only problem comes with boots, they are not as high as ladies boots so even on me they only come to mid-calf. ;)

I buy lots of men's items as they have sleeves long enough for me. A 20" underarm means no women's shirt sleeves are anywhere near my wrist.
