Happily got power back this afternoon. Ohh, the relief!! Immediately plugged in all my dead ipads and phones, filled the kettle for tea and gave thanks to Albert for changing his invasion plan. Still raining. Still chance of a bad thunderstorm. Still have ankle-deep water in the yard and at the front door. But after a fresh and a big bowl of hot soup, I'm right as ... rain? Thanks for asking.

It's tougher for my friend, Crackers, a little grey butcherbird (Cracticus torquatus), who most days flies down to my back door, hoping for a saucer of grated mature Bega. Lately it's a bedraggled dripping bundle of feathers that actually hops inside, flies under the dining table, perches briefly on the back of a chair, warbles politely then slowly hops back into the rain again.
