The name game: Parents-to-be are already arguing about their baby's identity. Which side are you on?

AIBU, which stands for 'Am I Being Unreasonable', is the perfect platform for sharing your thoughts and opinions! So, for today's AIBU discussion, we have this story from Reddit/throwaway719201

Will I be unreasonable if I give my daughter an 'outdated' name?

'I (32F) am currently seven months pregnant and we were told by the doctor that it's going to be a girl, so me and my husband (33M) have been thinking of names until we decided on a name we like, we decided to name her "Audrey" and when I told everyone at the baby shower, one of my sisters told me it was an "outdated name" and that she'd get bullied for having a name like that (which is funny because she wanted to name her daughter "Ashhliegh" pronounced as "Ashley" before her husband stopped her)

After a while of her making comments about the name we eventually just kicked her out of the shower and I blocked her on all social media's when she kept messaging me telling me to change the name

So would it be unreasonable if I name my daughter Audrey?'

Congratulations!!!

You and your husband name your “baby girl”, whatever you want….
Audrey means “noble strength”
Such a beautiful name, easily rolls off the tongue, easy to spell!!!!

No, it is not outdated. A friend has two granddaughters - 6 y.o. called Audrey and a 2 y.o. called Margot. Another friend has 3 granddaughters called, Matylda, Penelope (never Penny) and Lyria.

Audrey has never had any comments about her name.

Since when has Ashleigh had two "h's" in it.

Stick to your guns and stay with the name that you both like. Anyone who is rude enough to make bad comments about it - not worth having as friends.

At the end of the day, all that matters is that you and your baby are fit and healthy.

Look forward to your baby' s arrival and enjoy the future as a family. Best of luck

All that comes to my mind is Audrey Hepburn, a fabulous & elegant actress from days gone by. Who hasn't seen Breakfast at Tiffany's? Personally I think this would be a fantastic choice of name for your daughter.

Do NOT worry about the age of the name.
My name derived from the ages before Christ was born and is believedd to have come from the Roman Family Antonius
At school i wasn't fond of the name Anthony but as years went on many of the kids consider me to be a school hero and have told me that so often. It became a little emnarrassing but the truth was that I loved going back to boarding school after every holiday.
The kids followed me and we were all great friends.
So Audrey will be great also, if you tell her how great her name is... and if she is not embarrassed then people (Particully her school friends) will love her.
Dear member Vet543, your post has been stated so beautifully. Wishing you a pleasant and enjoyable evening, God bless, 🙏🦋

As long as your child is not called Gertrude, Morag, Hubert or Errol.

Don't start me on Heavenly Tiger Lily or Sunday Rose!!!
Dear member Veggiepatch, thankyou for your post. I was just thinking, wasn't the earlier actor Errol Flynn, born in Tasmania, famous for his acting and exceptionally handsome appearance. Surely the name Errol should hold some prestige. Wishing you an enjoyable evening, God bless, 🙏🦋
