If you're one of those people who can never seem to pick a ripe avocado at the supermarket, then this tip is definitely for you!
Kim McCosker, author of the cookbook series 4 Ingredients, has revealed the secret to picking the perfect avocado every time.
According to Kim, the key is to check the stem.
She said: "If the stem comes off easily and you see green, then the avocado is perfect and ready to eat."
However, if the stem is 'fussy' and difficult to remove, it's most likely unripe.

The Australian author also advised: "If the stem removes easily and reveals a darker coloured flesh, it's likely over-ripe and will be stringy and inedible."
Kim said that she learned everything she knows about fruits and vegetables from her experience growing up as a "farmer's daughter".
"As a farmer's daughter, I pride myself in knowing 'stuff' about fruits and veggies," she quipped.
"For example, apples are 25 per cent air, strawberries have on average 200 seeds and pumpkins are 90 per cent water…but I never knew this."
The tip left a number of social media users stunned. Credit: Getty Images/Westend61.
Social media users gushed over the clever insight, with many admitting that they had "no idea" about the tip.
One comment read: "Wow. As a new avo eater thank you for all this info."
"And I was today years old when I found this out! Thank you for sharing," another quipped.
So, next time you're at the supermarket, make sure to give the avocado a little stem check before popping it into your shopping basket.
