The Fizz Factor: Men's Testosterone Levels (and Testicle Size) Boosted by Soft Drink Consumption, Says Study

Get ready to raise your cans and bottles of soft drinks, because we have some shocking news for you! As it turns out, our beloved fizzy drinks might not be as bad for us as we once thought.

Yes, you read that right - the same drinks that have been accused of causing obesity, heart disease, and diabetes could actually have a surprising benefit for men.

According to a recent study, drinking cola beverages could increase testosterone production in men, and may even lead to bigger testicles! That's right, folks, you might want to grab a cold can of cola if you're looking to boost your manhood…

Who knew that the key to a healthy libido could be found in a can of Coke or Pepsi?

Researchers from the Northwest Minzu University in China conducted a 15-day study involving groups of male mice. One group drank only water, while the remaining groups drank varying levels of Coca-Cola and Pepsi, respectively.

The study's aim was to determine the effect these carbonated beverages had on male fertility. After 15 days, the results of the study revealed that the testicles of the mice who drank only Coke or Pepsi had significantly grown in size, while the hormonal concentrations of the mice who just drank water had not changed.

The study, which was published in the scientific journal Acta Endocrinol, also found that the levels of serum testosterone in all mice increased after drinking Coke and Pepsi, concluding that 'high doses of Pepsi and Coca-Cola could improve testosterone secretion of male mice'.

Despite this, the study authors reminded us that other studies have indicated that drinking too many soft drinks can actually reduce sperm quantity and motility in men - a survey of 2,500 men even suggested that sperm quantity was reduced by 30 per cent when a one-litre carbonated beverage was consumed daily!

Based on the results of this study, the researchers concluded that although drinking Coke and Pepsi could increase testosterone secretion, it's certainly not advisable to do it regularly.

Key Takeaways

  • A study has suggested that soft drink consumption may increase testosterone levels and testicle size in men.
  • The study found that the testes of the mice that drank Pepsi and Coca-Cola significantly increased in size after 15 days.
  • The study suggests that males may experience increased testicle size and testosterone production as a result of soft drink consumption, but contradicts previous studies linking soft drink consumption to fertility.

Now, we're not saying that you should go on a Coca-cola or Pepsi binge just yet. These drinks are still packed with sugar and harmful chemicals that can wreak havoc on your body if consumed in excess.

But it's certainly an interesting discovery that could change the way we view our favourite fizzy beverages. So, the next time someone tells you that cola is bad for you, just tell them that you're drinking it for the sake of your...uh, manliness!

For the most part, it's best to limit your soft drink consumption and stick to healthy alternatives in order to promote overall health and wellness. If you're looking for healthier alternatives to fizzy drinks like Coca-Cola and Pepsi, there are a number of options to choose from:

Sparkling Water

Carbonated water is a great alternative to soft drinks, and can be flavoured with a slice of lemon, lime or cucumber for added taste.

Kombucha

This fermented tea has become increasingly popular in recent years, and is a great source of probiotics and other health benefits.

Herbal Tea

Tea is a great option if you're looking for a warm, comforting beverage. Herbal teas, in particular, are naturally caffeine-free and come in a variety of flavours.

Fresh Juices

Freshly squeezed juice is a great way to get your daily dose of vitamins and minerals. Just be mindful of the sugar content, as some juices can be high in natural sugars.

Coconut Water

This refreshing drink is packed with electrolytes and has a natural sweetness that makes it a great alternative to soft drinks.

Milk Alternatives

If you're looking for a creamy, sweet beverage, milk alternatives like almond milk or oat milk can be a great option.

Remember, moderation is key when it comes to any type of beverage, so be sure to enjoy these alternatives in moderation as well.

Glad I dont drink these. As an older female, I already have enough facial hair to deal with. I would not like increasing that any time soon. ;) :)

Just wondering if all that testosterone in men that drink lots of coke and pepsi spikes the domestic violence statistics? I suspect alcohol is mostly to blame.

They didn't say if the cola was also fed to female rats. I wonder what the effect is on female testosterone levels.
