The classic tiny van that has been selling “Australia’s best hot jam doughnuts” since the 1950’s continues its legacy — “These are a must have!”

Who doesn’t love a lovely hot donut every once and a while.

Warm cinnamon coated delights that ooze a cool sweet dollop of jam after a hearty bite. What’s not to love eh? .

Getting hungry? Well we have just the place in mind for those craving a sweet treat!

In fact,Aussies have been raving about the American Doughnut Kitchen for over 70 years.

You read that correctly folks! This doughnut shop has enjoyed mainstream success in the city of Melbourne where it has been operating since 1950, serving locals from near and far with their classic cinnamon sugar-coated doughnuts filled with fresh raspberry and plum jam.

Selling their doughnuts in a tiny tin van, the shop has remained open in Queen Victoria Market since 1950 when two friends named Arnold and Dave purchased the business.

Today, the families of Arnold and Dave are operating the business.

While the management of the business has been passed down to Arnold's and Dave's families, American Doughnut Kitchen follows the exact same recipe for the doughnuts they're selling since they first opened.

The doughnuts are being sold for $15 for a pack of 10, while their secret and specialty made raspberry and plum jam are being charged for $7.50.

And the shop has enjoyed so much mainstream success that it has gained a cult following among Aussies and other foodies from across the globe.

One fan said: "These are a must for when you're in Melbourne."

"I just got home and am sitting down to enjoy these wonderful doughnuts... they are something else," another quipped.

A third said: "They are quite simply delicious."

Now, unfortunately, not all of us are in Melbourne, so heading over there for a couple of donuts might be a tad arduous. Well why not make a few donuts from the comfort of your own home then?

Love a good Doughnut. The Doughnut van at Berry NSW always has loads of people queuing, waiting for their fresh, hot delights. Must make a trip!!

Do enjoy a hot cinnamon sugar coated donut. Will have to try them the next time I am in Melbourne

The best doughnuts are at the Victoria and Dandenong Markets in Melbourne. Freshly cooked as you wait and rolled around in sugar. They are an institution and have been around since God was a boy.

When I was nursing, before coming home for days off, I regularly visited the Queen Victoria Market at the top of the city. I'd get as many supplies as possible to bring home to my Mum.
After I returned home to live, Mum and I visited the Market weekly. Mum always bought me some hot ham doughnuts in their brown paper bag from the van, whereas I wouldn't buy them to eat by myself.....seemed wrong!
I can still feel that sense of intense flavour while being careful to not squirt hot jam all down my front. That feeling of satiation, licking the sugar and jam off the fingers, savouring every moment. Oh my ..... decadence +++

That's great that more folk can enjoy them.
A treat does wonders from time to time.
Dandy market would be a day's outing for me!
It is so much better since they have expanded. Not dissimilar to the Vic market but on a smaller scale. Fruit and veg sooo cheap!
