As far as memories go, this is perhaps one of mankind’s most iconic ones as a race.

This nostalgic picture was taken in 1969, when Australians, much like the rest of the world, stood transfixed and watched in awe as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the human race’s first steps into the frontier of space.

Do you remember that day some fifty-odd years ago? What was the atmosphere like? What were the first reactions you heard people around you utter? By all means, don’t be shy and share them with us!

I was in high school, we had an old black and white TV in one classroom so the whole school, about 200, crammed into this one small classroom with all the teachers to watch this event. It was stifling in the room, no space to move, hardly room to breathe, a few had to leave as they could not bear to stay in the room. They watched through the window. There was much anticipation and we were not let down, it was such a miracle, we all cheered and clapped as best we could, which wasn’t very loud as not many had room to clap. After the event there was much discussion, but back in our normal class rooms as we couldn’t wait to get out of that crowded space. I still have a shiny silver card that was released in commemoration of the event, I’m not sure where it came from.

I watched it in COLOUR not black and white like the rest of the world. I worked at the ATS Tracking Station at Cooby Creek in QLD. That vision was "Lost" after transmission to America.

I was in year 5 at school and the teacher brought a TV into the class and to watched it. We thought it was great to have a TV at school. How times have changed.
Wow! Do you remember what everyone else was saying @Akldhawkes? I imagine witnessing it must have been something else!

The atmosphere must have been so tense and electric at the same time! :D

I remember seeing the landing on the moon on TV at school on the Gold Coast. A couple of classes were moved to a new room. A TV was in the room and that's where we watched the first landing on the moon. We were so excited.
