We all know that being a teacher is a tough job. Not only do they have to deal with lesson plans and an ever-changing curriculum, but they also have to deal with the students who don't want to be there in the first place.
But despite all of the challenges that come with being an educator, it's hard not to be moved when one of the students goes out of their way to express their gratitude, especially if it's a gift with sentimental value.
Such has been the case for one teacher who received an extraordinary gift from a former student.
Taking to the Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Australia Facebook group, the educator shared a photo of a piece of 'art' that her year 12 student had made for her using a $17 Kmart wooden board — and people are calling it one of the most special gifts they've ever seen.
'One of my beautiful year 12 students from last year painted me this on a Kmart board,' the teacher wrote in her post on Facebook.
Apparently, the former student started a new business based on their talent. The piece of art reads: 'the story of our learning journey and how much we grew'.
The teacher said that she is so fortunate and blessed to have worked with such an incredible student, adding that she is very lucky because she never thought she would receive such a thoughtful gift in her life.
She added: 'I certainly won't be using it. It's taking pride of place on my Kmart peg board in my kitchen for life.'
The heartfelt post had many members moved, with hundreds of positive comments pouring in to compliment the student and the teacher.
'What a wonderful person and teacher you are,' said one user.
'When one gives respect, time and confidence to our young the world is their oyster. That is just stunning.'
'That’s a work of art! 'I’d never use this if I were you because it’s just truly beautiful to be damaged from use,' said another.
A third chimed in: 'It’s stunning! What an amazing gift.'
The artwork has also generated an overwhelming response, with many wanting to help the student succeed in her new business venture.
'What a talent!' one person commented.
Another agreed: 'It’s gorgeous. I hope she has great success in her business.'
The teacher provided the Instagram page of her former student so they can contact her and make arrangements for a similar order. The student's Instagram page is called @dreamingbyshaylee.
'Thank you for supporting Aboriginal women in business!' said one user.
This post just goes to show how empowering it can be to learn and experience new things within the classroom. But it also highlights the importance of teachers in mentoring and guiding their young students as they set out on their unique life journeys.
That's why it's important for us to recognise and appreciate the work of those in the education field. They may not get the same recognition as doctors or lawyers, but their work is just as important.
Speaking of showing support, if you’d like to show your yown appreciation for this incredible work or would like to have a similar piece, feel free to reach out to the student to order their artwork at their business page @dreamingbyshaylee.
There you have it, folks! Here's hoping that we can see more case studies like this in the future, eh?
What are your thoughts on this story? Better yet, for those who worked as teachers or trainers, have you experienced receiving a sentimental gift from your students or trainees? Share your experiences with us in the comments below!
