Sydney cafe roasted online for serving Australia's "WORST" Vegemite on toast

As we all know, Vegemite – a savoury, umami-rich spread made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives – is considered an Aussie icon, enjoyed best on a buttery toast for breakfast (or any time of the day, really).
That is why you can only imagine the disappointment and frustration one customer felt when he went to a cafe and was served a rather sad-looking Vegemite toast.
Posting on the popular forum site Reddit, the customer shared that a cafe in Sydney served him a miserly Vegemite toast. “Vegemite on toast from a cafe,” he wrote in the caption, followed by a sad smiley face.
The toast, which was made with undercooked bread and featured an uneven spread of butter and a stingy dollop of the good stuff, was slammed by hundreds of users online.
The question "How much Vegemite is the right amount?" has been a long-standing debate amongst Aussies, and no matter where you stand in the argument, we bet you’d agree that the cafe really fell short.

Another added: “I always wondered how badly you can you f*** up Vegemite on toast. We have a new leader."
"Someone just wiped their knife clean," a third user wrote.
Some even went as far as labelling the toast as "un-Australian" due to the "disgracefully" tiny amount of Vegemite that was put on the bread.
Many others joked that they'd call the police and report it as a crime, while some questioned the customer why they would order Vegemite toast from a cafe when it can easily be made at home.
This led to other users sharing the "only" proper way to prepare Vegemite on toast.
"Said it before I’ll say it again: Butter on hot toast, edge to edge. Let it melt. Cover with Vegemite edge to edge. If you can see butter that’s a personal choice. If you can see bread you’ve failed at Vegemite toast," they said.

The right amount of Vegemite spread on toast can be a very personal decision, even amongst Aussies.
Last year, when the popular Facebook page Stay at Home Mum questioned their followers about how much Vegemite spread is the right amount on toast, the answers varied across the board.
