Sweet sticky toffees

Oh my goodness, who here remembers these toffees? They would always be at school fetes, birthday parties, community fairs and more. They used to be so popular because they would last for hours and there were so many different toppings that there was a toffee suited to everyone's taste buds! I used to love the 100s and 1000s or desiccated coconut topped toffees (I am salivating at the thought!) When I found this photo, another woman had commented on how much she missed chocolate crackles, coconut ice, and toffee apples as well… Oh my, treats these days just don’t seem to taste nearly as good as they did back then? What I would do to have a toffee, a slice of coconut ice, a chocolate crackle and a toffee apple!

Absolutely remember them and wasn’t there a coin in the bottom of them occasionally?!😀

I learnt to make toffee, toffee apples, honeycomb and marshmallow to take to school, to fundraise for the missions.
The secret was a think based saucepan, so the toffee stopped cooking as soon as it was removed from the stove.

I remember them…..made them for every school fete etc. Never made one with a coin though…..maybe an eastern states thing?
