Surprise inside KitKat bar leaves chocolate lover baffled: ‘All Kit, no Kat’

If you love sweet treats, there aren’t many things more satisfying than the bite of a crisp and crunchy KitKat. It’s like a little slice of joy, with its delicious chocolate coating and crunchy wafer layers.

But KitKat, one of the most popular chocolate bars in the world, made headlines this week after a passionate chocolate lover found a rather unusual surprise inside her bar.

Keely McGrath, originally from Ireland, recently moved to Darwin, Australia and decided to pick up a KitKat as a delicious snack.

She was extremely ‘devastated’ after biting into a KitKat bar and realising there was something ‘very different’ inside the packet.

The woman had been looking forward to treating herself that day, only to discover ‘the best bit’ – the wafer – was missing.

‘My KitKat has no “Kat” in it,’ she said in a video uploaded to social media.

‘There's no wafer. What the h***! I am so f****ng annoyed,' she continued.

Keely also added that thousands of people have already told her that she won the ‘food lottery’. However, she disagreed.

‘In my eyes, if I wanted a KitKat with no wafer, I would’ve bought a Yorkie,’ she said.

Keely added: ‘I was disappointed as KitKats are actually my favourite bar, which might be an unpopular opinion.’ She also claimed she liked the fact that there wasn’t a lot of chocolate inside a normal KitKat, as this suited her tastebuds nicely.

In the end, Keely was able to swap her waferless KitKat with her boyfriend, who received a normal chocolate bar.

But this isn’t the first time Keely encountered the unusual chocolate bar. A few years ago, the same incident occurred when she purchased a chunky KitKat bar.

‘I actually hurt my tooth that time because it was a massive block of rock-hard chocolate,’ she claimed.

Social media users who saw Keely’s post considered her ‘lucky’ for getting her hands on the bizarre chocolate bar.

‘I dream of this – the chocolate is the best part!’ Someone wrote.

‘You're so lucky – I've had that before, and it's so great,’ another replied.

KitKat has admitted that mistakes during production occasionally happen because wafers are baked separately from the chocolate before getting fitted into the mould.

KitKat manufacturer Nestle said in a statement: ‘We are sorry if you experienced a missing wafer in KITKAT. We want to help reunite you with a light, crispy wafer! Our priority remains the quality and safety of our products. We have several processes in place to prevent this from happening.’

According to the company, the chances of this occurring are rare. However, it can still happen due to manufacturing missteps.

The statement explained: ‘Occasionally, our manufacturing equipment will experience a momentary malfunction that results in some KitKat bars making their way through without a wafer.’

‘Our factory performs manual and digital inspections to ensure that these wafer-less KITKAT products do not make it to our consumers, but this can sometimes happen,’ the statement continued.

A spokesperson for KitKat responded to Keely’s frustrations online, saying that sometimes ‘mistakes happen’.

‘We know it’s not a KitKat without that iconic crisp wafer we all know and love! Our wafer is baked separately and then dropped into a mould, where it's sandwiched together with a cream filling,’ the spokesperson admitted.

‘It seems Keely’s wafer decided to have a break, so we’ll be sure to let our team at the factory know!’

Despite this being a ‘rare’ occurrence, last year, several fans of the chocolate bar took to KitKat’s official social media accounts to complain about their waferless chocolate bars. And according to reports, this manufacturing error wasn’t just found in their classic chocolate bars but even in their chunky and other flavoured ranges.
