As the familiar hum of morning television filled the homes of viewers across the nation, a heartwarming moment on The Morning Show caught everyone by surprise—including co-host Kylie Gillies.
It was an emotional day on set as Gillies was brought to tears by a touching video message from someone very special to her.
The segment, titled 'Turn Back Time with Dr Gabby Staniforth', was designed to discuss the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and the role of childhood habits in shaping our later lives.
However, it took an emotional turn when messages from Gillies' mum, Margaret, and Emdur's mum, Faye, were played on the show.

Margaret reminisced about her daughter's childhood, painting a picture of a young Kylie Gillies who was always special and loved to entertain.
'As a little girl, she just loved to entertain—at Christmastime, she ran little concerts with her sisters and all her cousins to entertain the guests,’ Margaret said.
‘At school, she loved public debating and musicals—I am not at all surprised she ended up in TV.’
Emdur's mother, Faye, also had a few words to share about her son, describing him as a 'born larrikin'.
She said, 'We named him Larry, and it was a good name for him, as he was Larry the larrikin. He was warm and fuzzy and used to joke with us all. The one to keep us all happy and jolly.’
‘Now, he seems to be doing the same with his audience.'
The heartfelt messages left Gillies visibly emotional.
‘What a treat, wow,’ she said as she wiped her tears.
Emdur, on the other hand, lightened the mood with his humour.
‘Your mum was beautiful and professional, like a CV. Mine sounded like an obituary. Thank you mums,’ he joked.
Dr Gabby Staniforth, the segment guest, emphasised the importance of relationships in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
She added that people with ‘purpose’ can live longer, according to a recent study.
She equated sustained loneliness to smoking 15 cigarettes per day, citing recent studies that show loneliness can shorten a person’s life by 15 years.
'Meaningful and nurturing relationships are a basic human need,' Staniforth said.
'When we don’t have that, we feel loneliness and pain.’
‘When we feel pain, we release stress hormones, and it relates to heart attacks and dementia.'

In a study published in Neurology, the researcher asked participants how often they interact with others through the question: ‘How often are you in contact with relatives or friends who do not live with you (e.g., meeting or talking with them on the phone)?’
Results showed that those with fewer social connections and interactions had lower volumes in key brain areas related to memory and dementia. You can read more about the study here.
