Supermarket reigns supreme in customer satisfaction, claiming top spot for seventh year running

In a world where the cost of living seems to rise, finding value for money is more important than ever for Australian shoppers.

It's no small feat, then, that ALDI has again been crowned the king of customer satisfaction in the supermarket sector, according to Canstar Blue’s Supermarket Satisfaction Ratings for 2024.

For the seventh consecutive year, ALDI has proven that its blend of affordability, product quality, and shopping experience is a winning formula, leaving competitors like Walmart and Costco in their wake.

The German supermarket giant has maintained its stronghold on top positions and has also done so when every dollar in the grocery budget has to stretch further.

The supermarket scored a remarkable five stars across multiple categories, including value for money, fresh produce, deal and special availability, store layout and presentation, and the quality of its branded products.

Simon Padovani-Ginies, ALDI Australia Group Director, expressed pride in the supermarket's ability to serve its customers effectively, especially during challenging economic times.

‘Being credited as the only five-star rated supermarket for overall satisfaction shows our day-in-day-out commitment to delivering market-leading prices on high-quality goods is resonating with our shoppers,’ he said.

'Customers deserve great value for money and quality products when shopping for groceries, so this is a proud win for ALDI and our many Australian business partners who always aim to exceed the expectations of our shoppers with the excellent products on our shelves,'

Canstar Blue’s Editor-in-Chief, Christine Seib, highlighted the rarity of ALDI's achievement.

‘Canstar Blue surveys consumers to rate brands in more than 300 product and service categories on their own customer satisfaction levels, and brands that top those ratings for more than a year or two are rare,’ he added.

‘That makes ALDI’s domination of the Most Satisfied Customers – Supermarkets award for seven consecutive years not only an unusually strong performance from any brand but also a testament to its consistent delivery of what Australian customers want from a supermarket.’

The fact that ALDI has kept its five-star satisfaction scores in five key categories is impressive.

‘ALDI managed to do this at a time when customers’ budgets were strained by rising costs of living and competition between supermarket brands.’

‘To attract and retain those increasingly cautious shoppers was particularly high,’ Ms Seib continued.

‘In fact, Canstar Blue’s survey found that ALDI’s customers reported a lower weekly grocery bill than the customers of all other major supermarket chains.’

If you’re planning to shop at ALDI, they’ve just announced the return of The People’s Picks customer-voted awards, now featuring two new categories: Best Newcomer and Certified Gold.

Recent data reveals that 5.1 per cent more households are shopping at ALDI, and customer visits have risen by over 8 per cent in the past three months. You can read more about it here.

I cannot understand why as their products are their own brand and they have very few or original brands and if they do they are so pricey. The most annoying part of shopping there is packing your own bags there is no personal touch. It is ashame that we do not have supermarkets like they have in the USA where you can buy in bulk and there is no charge to shop there.

Never shop at Aldi. The store near me is small and doesn’t cater for what I need.
agree. I have a few extremely small stores within the southern suburbs where I am and they hardly cater to all. Certainly not to anyone with food intolerances- one only g/f bread which is a stoggy doughy bread. And dairy free dont have options that one almond and on lactose free. Not nice. Lactose isn't the main reason for dairy issues its the protein casein . No cereals, cakes, etc that are free of these. My cats did not like their food. And don say they are fussy. No animal eats only one food in the wild and nor do we. Why not have more options. No perfume free loo paper (artificial scents can cause issues.) I've been into 3 of the local stores- met often not fully wrapped and not completely in the cold shelf hanging off (I know that can be due to customers), and the fruit and veg were not fresh by any means. I've been really disappointed. HAven't been into big store like I know exist. Just so little variety in them.

I often how these and other companies, regardless what they surveys are for, are actually taken by whom and how many? Not once have I been offered opportunities to participate in one. My family and friends never have been either. So just how trustworthy are ratings for anything. Much like political polls and they ask people in the street- very limiting. And with so many things store to store can vary hugely.

The previous thing about the caravan my security on my computer blocked the page

Really don't understand why they don't have more market share. The staff, store set up, stuff in the middle and food so much better than Colesworth. And you don't have to carry some silly storecard around to get the sales.

I tried Aldi as soon as they arrived in Sydney being sick and tired of the ColesWorth duopoly... Only once did i utter "I dont expect that from a German company" and the matter was quickly resolved... I also shop at Coles, Woolworth and IGA depending on where I am at a particular time...but the main heavy shopping is at Aldi.
