Sunrise’s Sam Mac endures a knife-throwing act while co-hosts watch

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac is known for his daring stunts and willingness to go the extra mile for his job.

But this week, he took his commitment to a whole new level when he became part of a knife-throwing act while reporting on the new show Suave at The Pink Flamingo Spiegeltent in Brisbane.

The act was performed by a Romanian husband and wife duo, Larry and Oana, who have been thrilling audiences with their knife-throwing skills.

Sam, always up for a challenge, was invited to participate in the act, much to the shock and amusement of his co-hosts, Nat Barr and Matt Shirvington.

'They want me to have a go. I'm not making this up. The producers here, the team behind it all, he said it is 100 per cent safe?' Sam said, his voice tinged with a mix of excitement and apprehension.

Sam's confidence seemed to slightly waver as he watched the couple demonstrate the stunt. A knife ricocheted off the board, narrowly missing Oana, which understandably gave Sam pause.

'I felt pretty confident until I saw one ricochet off and just missed your partner,' Sam said.

Despite his reservations, Sam decided to go ahead with the act after receiving encouragement from Nat and Shirvo.

'I will not move. Normally in television, the knives go in your back, so this is a little bit unorthodox,' Sam joked, adding a touch of humour to the tense situation.

As the knives whizzed past Sam, he couldn't hide his shock. 'That's really close! I felt the wind of that one go past my eye,' he exclaimed.

But, in the end, all the knives were thrown, and Sam emerged unscathed. 'I'm alive!' he declared in relief.

Sam praised Larry for his impressive skills, adding a pun for good measure. 'The Romanians. How impressive. I really need a Bucharest. That's a Romanian joke. A great pun,' he quipped.

Earlier in the segment, Sam was taken aback by a near miss between Larry and Oana, after a knife fell off the board.

'Ooh! That one dropped. Wow! I don't think that was supposed to happen but yes, amazing, guys. That is just (incredible).'

This daring stunt marked Sam's grand return to Sunrise after taking time off to be with his one-year-old daughter Margot.

The doting dad took a break from his weatherman duties to look after Margot while his partner, stylist Rebecca James, returned to work. You can read more about it here.

Sam's daring stunt is a testament to his commitment to his job and his willingness to entertain viewers, even if it means putting himself in the line of fire or in this case, flying knives.

His co-hosts and viewers alike will no doubt be eagerly anticipating what he'll do next.

While it may seem like a dangerous act, professional knife throwers are highly trained and follow strict safety protocols to ensure no one gets hurt.

OH&S Law, seems not to be relevant to TV reporters. The same thing applys to jumping into the cyclone zone and ignoring directions from authorities. Go figure. 🤯

I'm waiting for the "life threatening" part.

Walking through Dandenong in broad daylight is infinitely more dangerous than this stunt. Trouble is the knives are replaced by HIV/Aids tainted needles.

I wouldn’t mind having her money, talent or looks. Her birthplace is not far from where I was born (albeit I was born first)!

December 2018 - January 2019. The snow is beautiful to look at until you have to shovel it or drive in it. In the springtime when the snow starts to melt, you can see the cigarette butts and other rubbish that people dump throughout the winter. But as a little kid, the snowfall was exciting at Xmas time! Probably my best childhood memories.
