For anyone who's ever had to deal with bed wetting, whether it's themselves (let's face it, we’ve all been there at one time or another) or their child or grandchild, it can be a frustrating and embarrassing experience. But one mum has found a simple and affordable solution that has made all the difference for her daughter.
Sharing on Facebook, the mum wrote about how she discovered waterproof mattress protectors from Kmart, which have been a game-changer for her daughter who struggles with bed wetting.

At just $15 each, the Anko waterproof mattress protector from Kmart is a soft and comfortable top with a waterproof layer underneath, which means that accidents can be easily dealt with without having to change the entire bed.
The mum says that her daughter was able to use the mattress protector last night and didn't have to wear a nappy, which has given her a sense of relief and significantly reduced her anxiety.
She shared: "Not a markdown, but I have a daughter that struggles with bed wetting at 5 and gets so embarrassed having to wear a night nappy. We have tried everything. Stumbled across these in Kmart."
"Soft on top and totally waterproof underneath. She used it last night and for once didn't have to wear a nappy. Please don't judge, we have tried everything. Endless getting up, stopping water drinking everything."
"$15 in Kmart in the living aid section that assists the elderly. I bought 2, the best $15 I ever spent and a happy little girl. Please no nasty comments."
"My kids are a lot slower when it came to not wetting the bed. Thank you. Was just posting to help anyone else out in the same situation."
Since the original post was shared, it has received more than 1,800 likes and a lot of positive feedback from other parents who say that they wish they had known about this trick sooner.
One person wrote: "Great idea for kids beds full stop, as accidents can happen and also kids don't always make it out of bed when sick."
"Also, bed wetting at 5 is pretty common anyone who judges is just an ars*hat."

Other mums flooded the comments section with support as the Kmart shopper had expressed her worries over other people's judgements of her daughter.
One mum said: "Nothing to judge mumma. If you buy 2 and layer them with a sheet in between, if there is an accident overnight you can just pull the top layer off and not have to make the bed again in the middle of the night. It works all through no matter what age."
"I used it a lot when my babies were very spewy and the sheets needed to be changed quickly, it also saves your back in the middle of the night"
A number of users also shared their experiences wetting their beds as an adult due to health issues.
One user quipped: "As an adult who wet the bed until the end of primary school and still has a water proof topper on my bed as an adult - leakage freakage- these sorts toppers are great."
"Seniors could use this too, as some tend to wet their bed due to urinary incontinence," another added.
Speaking of seniors experiencing "accidents" during bedtime, did you know that these occurrences can pinpoint some underlying health issues?
There are many potential underlying issues that can contribute to older folks wetting their beds. Some of the most common include:
1) Urinary incontinence: This is a common problem in seniors, and can be caused by a variety of factors. One is that the bladder muscles become less able to hold urine as people age. Chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and dementia can also contribute to incontinence. Additionally, the bladder may become over-sensitive and contract when it is not full.
2) Diuretics: Medications used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, and other conditions may cause seniors to urinate more frequently.
3) Sleep disorders: Sleep apnea and other disorders that disrupt sleep can cause seniors to wet their beds.
4) Urinary tract infection: A UTI can cause seniors to feel a strong urge to urinate, even when their bladder is not full.
How to Address Bedwetting in Seniors
If you experience these accidents, the first step is to talk to your doctor. They can rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be causing the problem.
The doctor may also recommend lifestyle changes, such as limiting fluids before bed, going to the bathroom before bed, and avoiding diuretics. If these changes do not help, the doctor may prescribe medication to treat incontinence.
If you experience wetting the bed due to a sleep disorder, the doctor may refer you to a sleep specialist, while those who wet the bed due to a UTI, might need to consult their GPs for an antibiotics prescription to clear up the infection.
So, there you have it, folks! If you know someone who is struggling with bedwetting, a trip to Kmart for a mattress protector might just be the answer you're looking for.
