String bag

Who remembers using this? Back then, plastic bags were a distant future, and mothers relied on these handy, woven companions for their shopping needs. It’s easy to carry and expandable; no wonder it’s making a comeback today. It's a reminder that sometimes the best solutions come from generations before us, and revisiting the tried-and-true can lead to practical, sustainable solutions. Do you still have one of these?

My mum had a collection of these & I had a couple when I was first married. They were a bit awkward to get things in & out of but definitely served a purpose. I bought one in WA a couple of years ago but I prefer bags without “holes” in them.

I have one but the string is plastic coated which my grandson found the other week. He was in total disbelief when I told him what it was used for. I have it for nostalgic reasons, it was my Mums and I don't use it. Don't want other people to see what I am buying.

Going off on a tangent ....
Back about 1985 the secretary wore a top into the office, that was about the same as one of those string bags with no bra on. The boys found many reasons to go down the front office that morning. The top boss came in later and sent her straight home to change. Spoil sport. 🤣
