Stop spending a fortune on furniture. I just fixed my entire living room for under $150. (A serious lighting rant)
Hey everyone, I'm a huge fan of this sub but I'm also here to call out a design myth I've seen everywhere. We talk endlessly about sofas, rugs, and accent chairs, but what really transforms a space?
It's the light.
For months, I was ready to drop a ton of cash on a new armchair and a gallery wall to make my living room feel less… lifeless. My overhead light was a disaster—harsh, cold, and created these awful shadows in the corners. I was basically living in a giant, brightly lit box.

Then, out of sheer frustration, I decided to focus on layered lighting. I found a simple, minimalist floor lamp from a brand called Sunmory. And I swear, this thing has done more for the ambiance of my living room than any other single piece of furniture. It’s a total game-changer. The warm, diffused glow completely eliminated the harsh shadows and made the whole room feel instantly cozier and more inviting.
Seriously, I’m half-joking here, but also half-serious: why do we focus so much on the things that sit on the floor when a great floor lamp can do all the work?
If you're stuck in a similar situation, I highly recommend starting with this. It completely changed my perspective on home decor.
Here's the one I got: www.sunmory.com
Prove me wrong in the comments if you think a $500 rug would have made a bigger impact!
