State-by-State Guide: Which States recognise Seniors Cards issued by other States?

Are you looking to travel interstate but need clarification on what discounts your Seniors Card entitles you to? Can you use your Seniors Card while interstate? These are the questions we are here to answer.

You can use this guide in two ways:
  1. Search under your home state/territory (e.g. NSW seniors travelling elsewhere)
  2. Search the state/territory you are travelling to (e.g. Non-NSW seniors travelling to NSW)

Happy travels, members!

Queensland

QLD seniors travelling elsewhere:
  • Each Australian state and territory has its own Seniors Card scheme, and some reciprocal arrangements are in place for using your Queensland Seniors Card in other states.
  • Public Transport and many interstate businesses provide discounts to interstate cardholders on request. It is best to ask the business if it provides a discount for interstate Seniors Card, Seniors +go and Seniors Business Discount Card holders before making a purchase.

It is best to ask the business if it provides a discount before making a purchase.
  • The National Seniors Transport Scheme provides Seniors Card members with concessions on transport throughout Australia. You can use your WA Seniors Card to receive a concession on public transport throughout Australia. If you are travelling to NSW, you will need to apply for an Opal Card prior to arriving. Can't be bothered to read this. Once upon a time the Seniors Card may have offered some benefits, but these days, they're practically useless unless it comes to fares. Living in Canberra and being over 70, I can get free public transport travel regardless of what time it is.

But then, when I travelled in Europe, I was getting senior discounts on trains without needing a "seniors card". Entry to the Colosseum was free.
