Here at the SDC, we are always looking for ways to save time and money. And what better way to do that than a quick and easy DIY project, right?

Less complicated is more effective when it comes to do-it-yourself projects. That is why, with a little imagination and a few household items, we are confident that you, members, can build some fantastic things at home.

In this article, one mum from Victoria will show you a quick and easy DIY project that you can do in no time – a wooden drink rest for your sofa.

And the most exciting thing is... you only need two items from Bunnings!

Using only some wood and liquid nails bought from Bunnings, the mum was able to make a wooden cup rest that can be placed over the arm of her sofa. It's the perfect addition to any living room – no more unwanted spills!

Aside from being a stylish addition to your living space, a cup rest on your sofa arm can also:
  • help keep your cup from tipping over, preventing spills and messes
  • help keep your cup within reach, so you don't have to get up to retrieve it
  • help keep your hands free, so you can use them for other tasks

Despite the idea's simplicity, thousands of people liked the mum's post on social media, with hundreds of them complimenting her for the simple yet brilliant DIY project.

"What a clever idea," one user wrote in the comments section. Another added: "Well, this is actually genius. Love this!"

But if even the smallest amount of building is beyond your capabilities, there's always a Kmart hack you can try! Others admitted to purchasing a $10 Kmart wooden wide serving stand and using it instead.

A few people online talked about how they used a Kmart lap table as a mug holder on their living room sofa. Credit: Facebook.

With only a few simple adjustments, you can modify the legs to precisely fit the width of your sofa arm.

However, the majority of DIY’ers believe that creating your own wooden cup rest allows you to personalise the wood to match your living room design or use spare pieces from other projects.

This quick and simple DIY project is ideal for anyone looking to give their sofa a more unique touch. With just a few supplies and a little time and labour, you can build a stunning and unique piece that will bring a subtle charm to your living area.

Are you looking to do this DIY project as well, members? We sure are, because you know how much we love our cuppas!

heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy this one is worthwhile remembering. We are moving into a new unit soon and of course the lounge area isn't as big as we would like it, this idea would definitely kill the overuse and cluttering of a few small coffee tables in the room. Emailing off to hubby as I type hahahaha

While I think it's a good idea, I'm not sure how safe it would be, especially if being used for a breakable cup/glass, or a hot drink as shown in the picture, as it looks too easy to knock the cup off the stand.
