Shopper caught eating RAW chicken straight from the supermarket: ‘Is he okay?’

We’ve all come across bizarre situations while out and about. But sometimes, you see something so absurd that you’re forced to stop and think to yourself, ‘Why?’

Case in point: a disturbing incident at a Westfield shopping centre in Adelaide where a man was caught munching on raw chicken straight from its supermarket packaging.

Shoppers at a busy Westfield in Adelaide's south were left in disbelief as they witnessed a man chomping down on raw chicken drumsticks straight from the supermarket packaging.

Dressed in a singlet and barefoot, the man appeared quite nonchalant as he munched on the uncooked meat.

One appalled shopper took a photo of the man and shared it on the popular social media forum Reddit. Social media users who viewed the post were quick to share their disgust.

'The chicken might be raw, but he is definitely cooked,’ remarked one commenter.

Another inquired, 'Can someone please check to see if this man is still alive?'

Someone said: ‘Is that raw chicken? Please tell me the photo is deceptive, and it’s pieces of ham rolled up or something.’

While another social media user mused that maybe the man was ‘pressed for time’.

‘He doesn't have time to waste sitting down to eat, or putting shoes on, or cooking his food. Few understand this mindset,’ they added.

One user wrote that they could ‘smell the salmonella’ from where they were, while others theorised that the man might have had a good reason for his bizarre behaviour.

‘He wants a week off work,' one person wrote.

Another agreed and said the man was ‘trying to get a few sick days’ at work.

‘If he's trying to lose weight, this will probably work,’ one more replied.

The photo circulated on other social media platforms as well.

In an Instagram post, the uploader described the man as eating a ‘nutritious and delicious lunch of fashionably rare chicken’.

Followers of the social media account expressed their sentiments in the comments section.

‘What a day to have eyes,’ one social media user commented.

One agreed and wrote: ‘He’s so cooked, the chicken gets charred on the way down….’

Another person wrote: ‘What an absolute savage, starts from the middle of the pack instead of working from left to right.’

‘I’ve never had a visceral reaction to seeing an Instagram post until now,’ someone else added.

Another social media user expressed their disbelief, claiming that a cooked chook must’ve cost cheaper.

‘Salmonella for lunch,’ one more responded.

This comes after a controversial post from a Woolworths customer sparked controversy online. The shopper expressed their concern about the display of fruit alongside raw meat at her local store in ACT, claiming that this increases the risk of food poisoning. You can read the rest of the story here.

Similarly, one shopper shared a warning on social media, claiming that if the packaged meat you’re buying is ‘inflated or bubbled’, that means the meat’s temperature changed ‘too quickly’, and advised against purchasing them to avoid food poisoning. However, one food scientist debunked this claim. You can read what they said here.

Why You Shouldn’t Eat Raw Meat:

NSW Food Authority warns against the consumption of raw meat because most foodborne illnesses are found here.

‘Raw poultry and meat may contain harmful bacteria including salmonella, listeria, campylobacter and E. coli that can cause food poisoning,’ they shared.

Better Health Victoria also claimed that ‘prepared fruits, vegetables, and salads could also be dangerous’.

‘Contaminated food will usually look, smell and taste normal. Food poisoning bacteria can grow and multiply on some types of food more easily than others,’ they warned.

Humans become infected by salmonella bacteria by consuming contaminated food or water, such as raw or undercooked meat, poultry, eggs or egg products, and by drinking unpasteurised milk.

According to experts, the incubation period (or the time between exposure to the bacteria and contracting the infection) can be between six hours to six days.

Salmonella infections can clear up on their own within a few days. However, if the person infected is a young child, an infant, an older adult, or someone with a weakened immune system, medical attention should be given immediately to prevent serious complications.

I saw a well known simpleton in the area I moved from digging in the bins at the local KFC. I thought he was looking for cans to cash in and then realised he was in the waste bin. He pulled out some discarded left overs and started munching. No, he's not homeless he has a roof over his head and gets fed in a group home.
