Shoppers at a Kmart branch in New Zealand were left in disbelief when the store's public address system broadcast sounds that were, to put it mildly, not suitable for a family-friendly shopping environment.
Marie Waring and her partner, who had ventured into Kmart to return a faulty product, found themselves amidst an auditory experience that was both bewildering and, for some, quite embarrassing.
According to Ms Waring's account, the store was filled with 'porn-like' moaning sounds that seemed to emanate from the overhead speakers.
The noises, described as soft female moaning, paused briefly only to resume with greater intensity.
'It was 100 per cent sexual female noises. It didn't sound like exaggerated porn, it sounded like, legit, a girl having a good time,' Ms Waring recounted.
The couple wasn't alone in their astonishment. Ms Waring stated that she locked eyes with another shopper who appeared 'absolutely horrified' by the unexpected soundtrack to their shopping trip.
The source of the sounds was a mystery, as they did not seem to be coming from the aisle where speakers were sold but rather from the store's PA system itself.
Upon reaching the checkout, Ms Waring inquired about the origin of the noises but was met with staff members who were equally clueless, simply stating they 'didn't know how it happened'.

Kmart's response to Ms Waring's online message was prompt.
‘Hi, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologise for the inconvenience and frustration this issue has caused you,’ the company said.
‘We will pass on your feedback to the appropriate team and make sure to address the issue at our Bethlehem store.’
‘We truly value our customers and their shopping experience, and we will make sure to do better in the future,’ the Kmart representative added.
