Shocking Attack: Find Out What Happened to the Channel 9 Olympics Broadcast Team in Paris!

In a distressing turn of events that has raised serious concerns about safety in Paris, two members of Channel 9's Olympics broadcast team were the targets of an attempted robbery that escalated into violence. This incident occurred in the northeastern Parisian suburb of Le Bourget, a reminder that even in the City of Light, the shadow of crime can loom large.

The team members, who were part of a larger contingent of around 200 Channel 9 staff in Paris for the Olympics, were walking back to their accommodation when they were accosted by a group intent on theft. The assailants attempted to snatch a backpack, leading to a scuffle during which the Channel 9 tech workers were assaulted. Fortunately, they managed to escape serious injury and find safety, but the incident left them understandably shaken.

Christine Ahern, a Nine reporter, spoke to 3AW about the harrowing experience, emphasizing the clear intent of robbery as no weapons were used. The workers, though back on the job, were deeply affected by the ordeal. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has stated that consular assistance is available to any Australian citizen in need.

This attack comes on the heels of another shocking crime in Paris, where an Australian tourist was allegedly gang-raped by five men. The 25-year-old woman was found in a state of distress outside a kebab shop in the 18th arrondissement, near the famous Moulin Rouge. The subsequent investigation by French authorities is ongoing, with the Paris Prosecutor's Office taking charge.

These incidents have cast a pall over the Olympic festivities and have led to increased safety warnings for tourists and athletes alike. Australian athletes have been advised to avoid going out alone or in uniform and to exercise caution when venturing outside the heavily secured athletes' village.

The broader implications for the Australian community in Paris are significant. DFAT has urged Australians to 'exercise a high degree of caution' in France, particularly during the Games, due to the persistent threat of terrorism and crime. Incidents of theft, pickpocketing, and muggings are reportedly common, especially in the summer months and in crowded areas.

The recent stabbing of a French soldier by an individual shouting religious slogans has only added to the tension, highlighting the multifaceted security challenges facing the city during such a high-profile international event.

For our readers at the Seniors Discount Club, this news serves as a stark reminder to remain vigilant when traveling abroad. It's crucial to stay informed about the local security situation, to keep your belongings secure, and to be aware of your surroundings at all times. While Paris is a city of unparalleled beauty and culture, it is not immune to the dangers that can afflict any major metropolis.

How did you find SDC ? Maybe it's a good thing you don't speak French then you don't know what they are actually saying about you.

I'm thinking you are actually someone still in Australia who opened this account today just to post this comment
I know a little French, smart enough to know is someone is rude! I am currently in France.

I think you may be telling stories.
If you have lived in a country for 10 years I'm sure you would speak the language.

You joined 47 minutes ago , have only commented on this post.

You first commented you didn't speak any French now you say you do.

Now to workout who you really are 🤔

I can’t believe after 10years you haven’t picked up the language I was only their a week but tried to pronounce the words

Don't paint the whole world as bad. You just get shot in North Korea, imprisoned in Iran, Syria and Russia, tortured in Myanmar, detained in China and Laos, beheaded in Congo and a few other African countries, kissed to death in Poland, Latvia and the Ukraine, and speared in the Highlands of New Guinea. I was regarded as suspicious in Sabah for asking for the phone number of a particularly intelligent and attractive young lady. How was I to know she was the mistress of the owner of a large company in Malaysia. Will keep you posted on how I go in Thailand during a visit later this year. Hopefully by eating lots of durian I might be seen as contributing to the Thai economy. Can anything go wrong on a massage table?? Won't mention my adventures down that path in India
I have friends in Chaing Mai. He's an OZ and been there for over 20 years, I loved it , especially the elephant sanctuary and the fact they walk past my friend's home BUT I would never try to drive anywhere there. The only people at fault in an "accident" are the tourists.

I have two friends, a Russian female and an Italian male, who have visited France over the course of 40 years, a few times a year. Both speak fluent French yet are still treated like total shit by the locals.

Never been there and never will. Better to avoid these arrogant cheese munching surrender monkeys.

And I am descendent of the French and my surname is that of a small town in Normandy, to which I alluded to a few days ago on SDC.
Ohh Veg I missed that town,,, still trying to work out who you are but the treatment of you friends sounds so like Bundy, I came here in 1988 and in many cases I'm still not a local. :D

Australia is just as bad where crime is concerned. We would never want to live anywhere near any city. However the Australian people are generally very friendly. We had a French in law relative, she was so rude and arrogant. We also found Americans also to be unfriendly and we never felt safe over there either.

At least we don't have the deadly terrorist attack as other countries Paris has been a target many times resulting in a large ammount of deaths.

Also pick pocket is huge in Paris .

I live in Sydney and it's not too bad.

In these days crime is everywhere

I have been to France numerous times over the past 55 years. The first time I found the Parisians to be 'rude', but it boiled down to the language issue. I learnt the French for 'excuse me do you speak English?'. This made a world of difference. English wasn't a common second language but the fact I tried a little French seemed to break the ice even to the extent of one person going into a store and bringing an English speaking staff member out to assist me. On subsequent visits I have noted that more people speak English, especially in restaurants. It is arrogant of us to think they should speak English when we can't speak French. Don't forget they have been dealing with the English who can be very rude when someone doesn't understand English. As for being 'surrender monkeys'. over the past few hundred years the French have won more battles than any other European country. I think there is a problem, during summer, of criminals defending on Paris from other adjoining countries, especially Roma, to take advantage of the number of tourists available to rob or con. Pigalle is a rough area at night. There was another story of an Australian couple robbed in Marseille. It is a known place for robbery and violence. Who goes on holiday with a Rolex watch? (see other story) If you look wealthy you are an instant target.

Never been outside Australia but have seen on the news of Aussies being killed overseas. Wouldn't waste the money going if I had it

If you see the news as you say, you would see the daily violent events. I would be just as vigilant in Australia. There are a lot of no go zones.

Maybe if the legacy media had been openly reporting how the French have been rioting continuously FOR MANY, MANY MONTHS, people could have made informed decisions about whether or not to go?? You can look up all the rioting events of the last 6 months on You-Tube - you won't find it on mainstream T-V...
Similar occurring in the UK. 9,000 mobile phones were stolen in London from people in the street in January 2024, plus another 8,000 in February & another 7,000 in March. Only saw this reported once in the media.
