Shocking Attack: Find Out What Happened to the Channel 9 Olympics Broadcast Team in Paris!

In a distressing turn of events that has raised serious concerns about safety in Paris, two members of Channel 9's Olympics broadcast team were the targets of an attempted robbery that escalated into violence. This incident occurred in the northeastern Parisian suburb of Le Bourget, a reminder that even in the City of Light, the shadow of crime can loom large.

The team members, who were part of a larger contingent of around 200 Channel 9 staff in Paris for the Olympics, were walking back to their accommodation when they were accosted by a group intent on theft. The assailants attempted to snatch a backpack, leading to a scuffle during which the Channel 9 tech workers were assaulted. Fortunately, they managed to escape serious injury and find safety, but the incident left them understandably shaken.

Christine Ahern, a Nine reporter, spoke to 3AW about the harrowing experience, emphasizing the clear intent of robbery as no weapons were used. The workers, though back on the job, were deeply affected by the ordeal. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has stated that consular assistance is available to any Australian citizen in need.

This attack comes on the heels of another shocking crime in Paris, where an Australian tourist was allegedly gang-raped by five men. The 25-year-old woman was found in a state of distress outside a kebab shop in the 18th arrondissement, near the famous Moulin Rouge. The subsequent investigation by French authorities is ongoing, with the Paris Prosecutor's Office taking charge.

These incidents have cast a pall over the Olympic festivities and have led to increased safety warnings for tourists and athletes alike. Australian athletes have been advised to avoid going out alone or in uniform and to exercise caution when venturing outside the heavily secured athletes' village.

The broader implications for the Australian community in Paris are significant. DFAT has urged Australians to 'exercise a high degree of caution' in France, particularly during the Games, due to the persistent threat of terrorism and crime. Incidents of theft, pickpocketing, and muggings are reportedly common, especially in the summer months and in crowded areas.

The recent stabbing of a French soldier by an individual shouting religious slogans has only added to the tension, highlighting the multifaceted security challenges facing the city during such a high-profile international event.

It's crucial to stay informed about the local security situation, to keep your belongings secure, and to be aware of your surroundings at all times. My son went to Paris two weeks ago and said he was hearing of so many robberies and was told by his hotel to becareful especially at night. He was only there 4 days and said he would never go there again. He also said the actual people were very rude . It was almost like they don't want tourist there.

My daughter and other son said the same thing when they went there in 2019 just before covid

I have no intentions of leaving Australia except maybe next July when my niece gets married in Greece but Greece will be the only place I go. My daughter is also now talking about getting married in Greece. I told her do it next year the same time as her cousin

Don't paint the whole world as bad. You just get shot in North Korea, imprisoned in Iran, Syria and Russia, tortured in Myanmar, detained in China and Laos, beheaded in Congo and a few other African countries, kissed to death in Poland, Latvia and the Ukraine, and speared in the Highlands of New Guinea. I was regarded as suspicious in Sabah for asking for the phone number of a particularly intelligent and attractive young lady. How was I to know she was the mistress of the owner of a large company in Malaysia. Will keep you posted on how I go in Thailand during a visit later this year. Hopefully by eating lots of durian I might be seen as contributing to the Thai economy. Can anything go wrong on a massage table?? Won't mention my adventures down that path in India

My husband and I went to France in 2015 and loved it. The people were very friendly and the most popular food was moules (mussels) which I am not a fan of. We also visited Lourdes which was wonderful.

Maybe if the legacy media had been openly reporting how the French have been rioting continuously FOR MANY, MANY MONTHS, people could have made informed decisions about whether or not to go?? You can look up all the rioting events of the last 6 months on You-Tube - you won't find it on mainstream T-V...

I think you were very lucky. One of my closest friends is French and she told me she should have warned them how they are. She said alot of French people are arrogant. I asked her what happened to her as she is one of the nicest people I know.

What makes Greece better. Haven't you heard about the latest murder in Greece

I keep saying - see Australia instead. Went to New Caledonia and had the misfortune to need to go to a chemist there. When the pharmacist realised that I did not speak French, the nose pitched up so high you would have thought I had dragged some dog shit into the shop - very rude French!

Maybe she left France did she
She did, she has been living in Australia for 30 years but goes back to France every 5 years and too see her mum.
The last time she went she was shocked at how much its changed and how rude the people were. Her sister lives in Paris and lived upstairs from where the terrorist attack happened and people were killed in a cafe

I have two friends, a Russian female and an Italian male, who have visited France over the course of 40 years, a few times a year. Both speak fluent French yet are still treated like total shit by the locals.

Never been there and never will. Better to avoid these arrogant cheese munching surrender monkeys.

And I am descendent of the French and my surname is that of a small town in Normandy, to which I alluded to a few days ago on SDC.

As someone who has lived in France for 10 years some time ago,now spends 5 months a year here in France, I find so many of the comments upsetting. I think so many Australians live under a rock. Do you not read the bad news about Australia, similar to what has been reported in this report. I feel so much more safe here in France than I do in Australia. I do not speak French, love the people and their way of life.

How did you find SDC ? Maybe it's a good thing you don't speak French then you don't know what they are actually saying about you.

I'm thinking you are actually someone still in Australia who opened this account today just to post this comment
