Seven’s hit series is on the chopping block! Is your favourite show about to disappear?

Game shows have been a fun way to learn new things off the television screens.

For game show fans who love to settle down with a cuppa while being competitive, they should brace themselves for this update.

One of Channel Seven’s most popular programs could soon be axed.

The future of The Chase Australia, hosted by Gold Logie winner Larry Emdur, has been bleak.

The network has been scrambling to keep up with fierce competition and changing viewer habits.

For years, The Chase has been a staple of Aussie afternoons, providing a bit of brain-teasing fun before the evening news.

Yet, lately, the show has been losing ground to Nine’s surprise hit, Tipping Point.

In recent weeks, Tipping Point has consistently outperformed The Chase in ratings, even making it into the top 10 national TV programs.

This ratings slump was more than a minor hiccup—it has caused real concern behind the scenes at Seven.

The 5:00 pm slot is crucial for networks, as they serve as the lead-in to the 6:00 pm news.

A drop in viewership on the 5:00 pm timeslot could have a knock-on effect on the rest of the evening’s programming.

Seven Network’s newly appointed executives have reportedly jostled for influence to impress the network’s top brass, including chairman Kerry Stokes and his son, Ryan.

CEO Jeff Howard, who’s just over a year into the job, has already felt the heat of the competition on the said timeslot.

Seven’s Group Managing Director of Television, Angus Ross, may have the final say on The Chase’s fate.

The show has already been shifted to a 3:00 pm slot in addition to its usual 5:00 pm airing as a test to see if it can find a new audience.

With The Chase’s future up in the air, Seven has also been considering a new afternoon program to fill the gap.

There have been talks of adding either a news program or an advertorial show, similar to the previously axed Daily Edition.

This idea could turn Seven into a near-constant news channel during daylight hours, running news and lifestyle content from sunrise to the early afternoon.

If The Chase gets the chop or moved to a secondary channel, Larry Emdur’s fans do not need to worry.

Insiders stated that he’ll remain a valued member of the Seven family, popping up in other roles or special projects.

For readers who love watching The Chase Australia, now’s the time to show support.
Key Takeaways

  • An advertorial-style afternoon news show may be put on their schedule to regain audience members before the flagship 6:00 pm news.
  • Should The Chase get cancelled or moved to another channel, host Larry Emdur may also appear in several Seven Network engagements.

If they move it into the English Chase spot then they will lose me and a lot of other fans too. The English version far outweights the Australian version, Bradley Walsh has so much more personality and presence. Larry doesnt have the personal touch'.

i watch both. tipping point has become stupid, people are getting more greedy. and Todd you are giving me the shits with the crowd bellowing out. take a tip from the tipping point from Britain. I like Larry, he is such a genuine person.
I love tipping point however in saying that I prefer the UK version. I'm disgusted in the fact the Aussie version shows just how greedy some Aussies can be, I just shake my head in disgust when I see that they have given up a good amount of money to get more and a holiday.. Absolute greed. They deserve to lose. They should be grateful to go home with any money at all. Also I don't like having the audience there bleating on in the background. Love Larry on The Chase but I have to say he doesn't have the charisma or wit of Bradley on the UK version.I love any game show, sometimes they let me know I'm not as clever or stupid as I think.

I love The Chase, both the English one with Bradley and the Aussie one with Larry, always make me use my brain re the questions, and a nice relaxing way to go to the News. Let Larry stay!!

It’s about time! The show is so boring, you are stuck with it if you’re in hospital. You surely won’t watch it by choice.
I agree it is getting boring and complacent especially the way some of the contestants behave.Same as Deal or no Deal they all act like imbeciles. I like some quiz shows but it's nice to have some new ones

All these game shows are boring. I save on my electricity bill by turning the TV off when these come on. The only things worse are the "real life" shows - MAFS, Farmer needs a wife, Dancing with the stars, cooking shows, building shows, you name it & they are there every night. Thank goodness for videos.

Remove wheel spin, too many go for bottom offer.
Agreed. That "come on in for the spin" is so cringey, and if a contestant goes for the low offer I turn the TV off. There is far too much of "sorry but we've got to say goodbye to that $xxx", so that hardly anyone ever wins anything. The contestants should get more time than the chasers to make it fairer, especially as some of the chasers seem to delight in taking the win off the team at the last second, like they have to show off how clever they are.

I like the chase, but channel 7's reception in Perth is so bad it is not surprising the ratings are terrible.
On all the seven channels.
Time to throw out your standard definition CRT television and get a new one. Or get a HD receiver such as the Laser brand from Officeworks for less than $60. Connect it between the antenna and the television and you're cooking!

You can also get a new 32 inch HD television for under $200 from the Good Guys or JB Hi Fi.

Or maybe a new antenna....
