Secret reunion? Discover how this iconic musician surprised fans with an unforgettable comeback!

There’s something special about a return to roots, where past and present come together to create unforgettable moments.

An iconic Australian artist brought his past back to life in the most heartfelt way.

Here’s what happened when he reunited with his bandmates and celebrated his legendary career in a truly memorable setting.

Daryl Braithwaite and his former bandmates from Sherbet reunited for the first time in over a decade, as they took centre stage at the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club.

This was a full circle moment for Braitwaite, as he started his music career on the same venue.

The special Welcome Summer event, held on a 3 December, brought together Braithwaite and surviving Sherbet members Garth Porter, Tony Mitchell, and Alan Sandow for a private gig that was as nostalgic as it was celebratory.

The evening featured a unique blend of old and new, with Braithwaite celebrated for his extraordinary milestone of 365 million streams on his classic hits, including ‘Horses’, ‘One Summer’, ‘As The Days Go By’, and the surprise 2020 favourite, ‘Love Songs’.

The event also included the launch of a retro remix of ‘One Summer’ by the original Red Wiggle, Murray Cook.

While the record label awarded a giant plaque for Sherbet, Braithwaite expressed that his greatest excitement was simply sharing the stage again with his old bandmates.

‘I told them to come along, that I’d be playing a couple of songs. And they all said “We’ll be there!” I couldn’t believe the way they all responded,’ Braithwaite shared before the show.

‘It’s been a lot of years since we were all in a room together.’

The reunion was an opportunity for Braithwaite, 74, to perform alongside his twin brother Glenn, adding an extra layer of sentiment as they played a rendition of ‘Horses’.

While fans hope for a Sherbet comeback, Braithwaite quickly shut down the idea/

Two pivotal Sherbet members, Clive Shakespeare and Harvey James, passed away in 2012 and 2011, respectively.

Beyond reminiscing and performing Sherbet hits like ‘Howzat!’ and ‘Summer Love’, Braithwaite added his latest single ‘It’s You’ on his setlists.

‘It’s You’ could make a splash on summer playlists soon, along with the remixed version of ‘One Summer’ by Cook.

‘The label said Murray from the Wiggles wanted to remix the song and he did about four attempts. I kept knocking them back because they didn’t sound right but the last one ended up being all right, so that’s it,’ Braithwaite shared.

Braithwaite’s commitment to live performances remains unwavering, as he continues to travel around Australia for shows and major festivals.

Braithwaite, who is also a keen photographer, also shares glimpses of his life on social media, including his fondness for camping at venues.

‘I like setting up the tent on grass and then enjoying the quietness. I like it immensely, the peace and quiet. There’s always people at the caravan parks, when I’ve set up the tent and they’ll say “You should be able to afford a caravan, mate.” I just really like the tent,’ he said, showcasing his down-to-earth spirit.

With merchandise salesnow a more lucrative income stream for musicians, Braithwaite capitalised on this trend by launching a new summer range, which includes T-shirts [add here his other merch items, if any].

His collaboration with Budgy Smuggler for a limited edition collection is set to drop in early 2025, giving fans even more reasons to celebrate.

The Coogee Surf Life Saving Club holds deep personal significance for Braithwaite.

The recently concluded show was a full circle moment for Braitwaite, as he started his music career on the same venue.

It’s where he first made a name for himself with his band, Bright Lights, back in 1968, setting the stage for his long and storied career.

I’ve never particularly liked Sherbet or Braithwaite and after seeing his performance on OzHarvest concert the other night think that perhaps it’s time for Darryl to hang up his mic. Like a lot of aged performers there comes a time when the memories are so much better than the current performances. Go out with style and dignity.

Braithwaite should have stuck to his original vocation - an apprentice fitter and turner and saved people with musical taste from incessant ear bleeds. The early 1970s were the nadir of music worldwide. Sherbet were a part of this dismal musical era.

"Horses" is the most overrated Australian song, up there with Daddy Cool's "Eagle Rock". Overplayed rubbish with no redeeming features at all.

I agree. Same with Rod Stewart's last tour. He needed assistance on stage and even sat down. Wasn't the Rod we knew from the 70's and 80's. Time is unfair to us all.

Reckon they come out of the woodwork because they need more money. I would never pay the prices they ask to go to a concert did it once with Wings many years ago. Couldn't see much , hated the crowds all manic then a nightmare to exit

That is a shocking remix it's just sped up and technically it's so bad,I saw Murray Cooke perform at Crown as a support act and he was terrible. He was so bad people walked out for a break,I'm not surprised he made a mess of this recording

The 70s is considered the best musical era ever and Sherbet and Skyhooks were huge when I came to Australia . I thought they were both brilliant but I agree with alot of people Daryl has struggled for many years with his voice because of his high pitched tone. I totally disagree with your sentiments and would you enlighten us with YOUR musical tastes please?

The early 1970s were riddled with "middle of the road" American yawn rock. The likes of Chicago, Styx, Foreigner, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Journey, Boston, ad infinitum, was the bane of music.

Luckily, bands such as The Doors, The Stooges, T Rex, Black Sabbath, Kraftwerk and the "solo" David Bowie existed at the time. It wasn't until the emergence of Punk and New Wave in the mid 1970s did music surface from the doldrums of mediocrity. The Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, The Stranglers, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Cars and The Clash made music listenable again, paving the way for Grunge and Techno in the 1990s.

A person's music choice is purely subjective. But if one chooses to listen to insomnia curing crud, that's their problem.

Not really - he is still reasonably musical unlike some who warble along - good luck to him - keep up the singing and your lungs with thank you Dazza.

"I do remember" back in the day when Sherbert played at Luna Park in Sydney - I was lucky enough to be visiting from God's country - Griffith NSW and I was so totally taken by Tony the drummer - "creamed my jeans" as we used to say in the 70's! Oh well, Dazza has grown grey as have most of us, some of us are no longer centre-fold material having put on a few kilos, wrinkles have crept us on us also - BUT - we still draw breath and love the sunshine. Long live the Boomers!

Gotta agree about “Horses”. Hugely overrated and boring. But, “Eagle Rock” is good to dance to.

I don't think having Superannuation was high a priority for performers back in the day. They may wish they could afford to go out with style and dignity. 😂
