According to ChatGPT:-

The phrase "raining cats and dogs" has uncertain origins, but there are a few theories about how it came to be:

  1. Norse Mythology Theory – Some believe the phrase stems from Norse mythology, where Odin, the storm god, was often depicted with dogs and wolves, symbols of wind. Meanwhile, cats were associated with rain due to their link to witches and storms.
  2. Medieval Drainage Theory – In 17th- and 18th-century England, heavy rainstorms sometimes flushed out stray animals (like cats and dogs) that had taken shelter in thatched roofs or street gutters. People may have described this gruesome sight as if the rain had brought them down from the sky.
  3. Literary Usage – The phrase appears in A Complete Collection of Polite and Ingenious Conversation (1738) by Jonathan Swift and may have been popularized by earlier writings. Swift also used similar imagery in A Description of a City Shower (1710), where he described the streets being flooded with dead animals after heavy rain.
  4. Greek Roots? – Some suggest a link to the Greek expression cata doxa (κατὰ δόξαν), meaning "contrary to belief" or "unbelievable," which could have been misinterpreted as cats and dogs over time.
By the 18th century, "raining cats and dogs" had become a common English idiom for heavy rain, though its exact origin remains a bit of a mystery!

Wee glitch on the name there. Ebony was one of dogs🐕‍🦺 from years gone by, a big boy at 90kg, but absolutely adorable. The current black cat, the menace, is called Diablo 🐈‍⬛ and he lives up to his name 😻😻😻. I’ll definitely bring Diablo as he loves to leave black fur over the legs of everyone he meets
Sounds like my husband's dog, Zorro! 🌷

I am not happy about Q8 as the main object of the D-Day invasion was to rescue the Allies who were trapped behind enemy lines in France!

That‘s not the way as I knew it.

The purpose of the D-Day invasion (June 6, 1944) was to establish a Western Allied front in Nazi-occupied Europeduring World War II. Officially known as Operation Overlord, the invasion aimed to:

  1. Liberate France – Nazi Germany had occupied France since 1940, and the invasion was the first step toward freeing Western Europe.
  2. Open a Western Front – The Soviet Union had been fighting the Nazis on the Eastern Front, and a Western invasion helped relieve pressure by forcing Germany to fight on two major fronts.
  3. Defeat Nazi Germany – By securing a foothold in Normandy, the Allies could advance into France and ultimately march toward Germany, leading to Hitler’s defeat in May 1945.
