You can apply the principles of calculus, namely differentiation and integration, to trigonometry, but not geometry. While there are some crossover between geometry and trigonometry, they are basically two separate entities.

I agree with your sentiments. Having been a maths whiz up until the second year of high school, I sadly fell behind due a poor teacher. I played catchup which lasted until I started university where maths was an important component of the Bachelor of Applied Chemistry. I ended up getting a high distinction in Science Maths 2 back in 1987 as a mature age student.
