SDC Team Weekly Recap

Good morning! This is just a little something new that we thought we’d try out. We’ve compiled some of our favourite little moments from the week to share with you all! Whether it’s something we say online or a moment in our week that stood out.

We hope you enjoy this insight into the lives of the SDC team.

Maddie
This isn’t so much of a wrap-up, but a recommendation. I will be sleeping all weekend long to recover from such a crazy busy week!

I’m also not sure whether to trust April’s food recommendations because she was the reason behind some great food and some awful food in Brisbane. Don’t worry, her recipes on the forum are safe to eat. ;)

Jon

April recommended Le Bon Choix in Brisbane as one of the best places for almond croissants. I can wholeheartedly confirm that it was the best I’ve ever eaten. And this isn’t a cop-out ‘I’ve only ever had one almond croissant’ answer, this is a lifetime of accumulated croissant knowledge.

I forgot to take a picture before devouring it but you can get an idea of the pastry below.

I stumbled upon some interesting things online this week! First up is this photo of Johnny Cash and King Charles III in their youth.

Neat, eh?

Next, I was shown this wonderful, inspirational story of a 97-year-old artist who apparently made a piece of art every day for the last ninety years.

Life wise, I’m about to move houses and cannot emphasise enough the importance of asking for a discount. While some companies won’t be able to help, there’s nothing to lose in asking if they can do a better price. I’m talking removalists, real estate agents, the lot.

I recently saw a video on TikTok (which I, unfortunately, wasn't able to save) explaining why the first meal you should eat in the morning when you're trying to lose fat is a healthy fat. The video made a lot of sense and I decided to do some further research on the subject.

It turns out that there are a few reasons why eating healthy fat first thing in the morning can be beneficial for fat loss. First, healthy fats are a great source of energy and help to keep you feeling fuller for longer. Second, healthy fats help to stabilise blood sugar levels, which can help to prevent cravings and overeating later in the day.

Vella

The lovely Vella is on leave but it wouldn’t feel right not having her name here! She’s travelling so hopefully will have lots of fun stories and pictures to share when she returns.

Sethia

This week, my grandma came home from the US. I haven’t seen her since 2020 because of the pandemic. She’s pretty much my mum as she raised me. My heart is full ❤️

Here’s a picture of us, finally reunited:

James

Not a wrap-up, but it's something I'm looking forward to! Later tonight, my friends and I will be heading out to a local pub for their quiz night, which this week will be about arts and popular culture. Even though I'm not very good at this sort of stuff (and not very competitive, either), I'm hoping that we win and have fun!

On an unrelated note, I just recently heard Mitski's cover of Glide (the original song is from the film All About Lily Chou-chou), and I must say that it's really beautiful. Crossing my fingers that After Yang will become available to stream online at some point soon!

So, what do you think? Should we make this a regular thing? Better yet, share something that stood out to YOU this week!

Definitely. It is great getting to know the people behind this great community. We offer our advice, opinions and criticisms so you get to know us in a small way, so the reverse is great too. Keep up the good work. I have learnt and read so much more from your emails than I ever thought I would.

Personally, l would appreciate something like this & also to see articles from our readers. Perhaps the occasional photo of those behind the scenes such as the one with Sethia & her grandma.

For me this week there were many highlights & they were all here. Reading the article about the gent who climbed on top of the shelves & having people share their own experiences were priceless to me. I enjoyed sharing my thoughts on this (or any) subject & the blessing comes when someone writes a statement agreeing with this. As previously stated, l believe this is a good forum for this subject given the diverse population of our readers. Sometimes someone will take offence at an opinion, but l guess that is life.

This is a subject which has been dear to me for many years. I have a grandson who has learning disabilities. These did not show until his parent's divorce. Whether this was the reason we do not know. Before this was diagnosed l worked with a couple of intellectually handicapped young people. They were a delight on camps, outings & at other times. They enjoyed being encouraged & included.

My other plus was reading l had just received another award today for doing exactly what l enjoy. Thankyou SDC & to the SDC family here.
