SDC Taste Test: Viral Aussie Food Combo

Today, you will have read about the unusual Aussie food combo that has taken TikTok by storm. Members, we took one for the team and decided to try the quite frankly gross food combination.

It is, of course, the strawberry finger bun from Baker’s Delight stuffed with Smith’s Salt & Vinegar chips.

It certainly looks… interesting. Image Credit: April

Initial thoughts

Maddie
‘I absolutely love strawberry finger buns and I absolutely love salt & vinegar chips but they don’t belong together.’

April
‘Exactly, my first thought was just: why?’

Jon
‘It wasn’t terrible but I’m not rushing out to do it again.’

Any suggestions?

Maddie:
‘I think if you want to do chips on a roll, go for the classic white bread roll with chips of choice but keep finger buns for sweets.’

April:
‘I can taste them both so distinctly at the same time but they would be so much nicer if eaten separately.’

Jon:
‘The strawberry icing was a bit too much but the plain bun and chips worked well.’

Would we try it again?

Maddie
‘Probably not.’ (That’s not a no, Maddie…)

April
‘Yeah, no.’

Jon
‘No (this was a firm statement too).’

Here’s hoping they don’t fire me for putting them through this terrible taste test.

So, members, have you or your grandkids tried this strange trend? Unfortunately, the SDC team verdict is a resounding ‘do not recommend’. Surely we at least get credit for trying this monstrous meal…right?

I love ❤ finger buns with loads of butter, was one of my childhood favourites.

I like potato chips as well but as for both together .....NO THANK YOU

My husband used to make potato chip sandwiches but was something I couldn't do.

Both of these need to be eaten by themselves
As kids we used to make peanut butter and plain crisps sandwiches. They were yummy then but I think my taste buds have since matured!!:)

Five stars for the team. I eat a 200 g packet of salt & vinegar chips in one go. Also 3 finger buns in one go. But together? Wouldn’t even try it. But then I’m not keen on sweet and sour.

I haven’t tried chips with finger buns as too sweet for me but love them as a potato chip sandwich or in a fresh bread roll. Yum👍🏻

Yes, credit where credit is due. Not on my list of must haves.
Our girls had Twisties in bread or bread & Vegemite with potato chips or Twisties. My fav is buttered bread & l lay cashews & peanuts over the entire surface, put the slices together & crunch.
My mother used to give us sandwiches with peanut paste & honey.
