If you receive revenue from the continued advertising of the Deaf Lottery?
2 Points: 1; Fundraising this way is abhorent, and reeks of dirty deeds,
2; I hope at least some of the money garnered actually makes it to Deaf recipients!
If this makes the blood boil, it id designed too. There are so many scams out there purporting to be assisting the disadvantaged members of our community, paying money to raise funds is counter productive.

I believe you will find that those of us that do subscribe believe it is money well spent! When you consider that, even on the monthly plan, it still equates to less than $1.50 per week and we get 12 newsletters, competitions, games etc every week of the year.

Just getting rid of the adverts makes it worth the fee.

Thank you so much for your comment! We understand this is a tricky one. I used to really struggle with this as well, until I worked for a charity and learnt how it all works. What I learnt is that without marketing the charity, it's very unlikely you'll get large sums of donations for the people who need it. It's different for every charity, and I cannot speak on behalf of the Deaf Lottery, but often marketing funds are not necessarily just donations, but money contributed by board members etc. Usually, everything you need to know is in the Charity's annual and financial reports which they legally have to share every year to show their donors how their money is being used. You can find the Deaf Lottery one here - https://deafconnect.org.au/about-us/annual-reviews. Whenever I donate to charity now, I always read the charities annual and financial reviews so I understand exactly where my money is going.

I can assure you, the Deaf Lottery is not a scam, they're a legitimate lottery whose goal is to raise funds to empower the deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing. On their website, they state: Every ticket purchased directly supports programs empowering Deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing Australians of all ages to live full and connected lives. More information is available here. We also ensured Deaf Connect is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

As for how we receive revenue, we do get paid by Deaf Lottery to promote their lottery and we have remained very transparent about this. However, this campaign we did with them was at a significantly reduced rate compared to what we do with our other advertising and sponsored partners. We have heard from them that the campaign did really well and there was a significant number of donations. So we believe, our members have helped raise a significant amount of money for them which should help people in need!
