Scams

Has anyone received threatening messages from Zip.co stating that they owe money? Every day another message and email, stating that I owe over $500.00. It’s not true, and I dealt with them in the early days of Covid. I keep responding telling them I owe nothing, and won’t pay. I have requested details of supposed transactions, and they never respond to that request. Does anyone have any advice. This whole issue is stressing me a lot. Thx, Gezabel.

If you're receiving emails from Zip.co stating you owe money, it's crucial to investigate. First, verify the email's authenticity. If you're unsure, contact Zip's customer service directly to confirm the email's legitimacy, as stated on their website.

Have you ever used zip pay ? Were you aware they have a $99 account keeping fee plus a monthly $9.95 fee.

Beware of Zip Pay, they charged me a $99 account keeping fee with no warning

no politics

It is what the title says, signed up with Zip Pay made the first purchase, immediately hit with a $99 account opening fee on top of the $9.95 monthly owing balance fee.
I called and asked to have it refunded and close the account, offered to pay all outstanding balances on the spot except for the $99 fee. As if I had known about this fee prior there is no way I would have used the service.
They refused this outcome, they said I agreed to this fee but at no stage during the sign up process was this ever mentioned, they later sent me a contract I "agreed to", which they didnt show me during the sign up process, nor did they send to me until after I had made my first purchase.
I spoke to a consumer lawyer at work and it sounds like zip technically met they're compliance requirements by having me accept Ts & Cs so I don't have much of a legal leg to stand on. But it's obvious Zip are purposely deceitful in how they display this information to customers. The only public facing warning they have about this fee is "A $0-$99 establishment fee may be required depending on account limit". And apparently selecting the smallest possible account limit means you get the largest possible account fee.

It's such a shame you've had a bad experience with zippay and zipmoney. I've held both accounts with them for about 8 years, and I love the service they provide to me. I understand a fee needs to be associated with their business, and I don't mind paying it because, for me, it's a convenient way of buying online and not using my personal banking/card details.

That does sound really stressful — I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.
If you're certain the debt isn't yours and Zip.co isn't responding with proper details, it might be worth treating this as a potential scam, especially if the messages feel aggressive or suspicious. Unfortunately, scammers often impersonate legitimate companies to scare people into paying.

Hi,
I would suggest doing the following:

1. Check it out on Scam watch. A website that records scams. They may have answers on what to do.
2. Contact Cyber.gov.au (This is a Police based cyber security organisation that deal with cyber crime. Give them all the details you can on what's happened.
3. Don't click on any links in any of their documents.
4. If you can copy and paste the addresses that you are getting them from include that in any correspondence with cyber.gov.au (They have heaps of information on their website)
5. If you think your ID or details have been compromised, go to IDCare website. They have more information there.
Don't stress. It can happen to anyone. I've just gone down that line with a scam too. Good Luck!
It's Bernie.

Great advice and thank you for your genuine help and kindness to this Member.

I use PayPal. Doesn't cost anything and I have never had a problem.
$9.95/month, that in itself is a scam
What a rort.

Rather than replying, just delete the messages and emails, it’s probably not Zippay anyway, it would be someone trying to scam you and whilever you are contacting them, they probably think they can wear you down and eventually get their money!! If you have the Zip app, go directly to that and it will show if you owe anything which obviously you don’t, if you don’t have the app, go directly to the website, don’t click any links in the messages. Hope this helps.

I also use PayPal for online purchases and have for about 15 years. Never have had a problem. When I haven’t received a couple of online orders in the past, I’ve always been refunded via PayPal.

I’ve used PayPal for a number of years now…I’ve never had a problem and they are very good with refunding…a couple of times I’ve bought something online from an untried shop and had issues with, I checked Trust Pilot and scam watch and discovered the awful reviews that were given….gave it all over to PayPal and they sorted it for me…..Now of course and no matter how much I like the product, I always check them out before buying…

Have you tried afterpay or PayPal? There are no fees associated with either of these unless you don't pay on time.
I use both then pay them off as soon as I have purchased
