I had that message a couple of weeks ago, it was wrong on so many levels. My daughter knows how to spell Mum (it was Mumm on the text). My daughter and I had a falling out some six years ago and I haven't seen or heard from her since, I would be the last person she'd ask for help. Added to that it's my son that drops his phone down the loo quite regularly!! ;) :)

What person can get scammed by this type of thing after months of warnings about how it works flooding all the various social media avenues and what dickhead 66 yr old uses whatsapp for messages its a phone home hackers tool at the best of times.

All mums and dads ever have to do in light of these scams is ask for the child's name or previously set up a safe word to let you know its NOT a scam.

I had one of these some time ago. I felt it was a scam, so I sent all three of my children a text message (not just passing the msg I received on to them) but sent it separately to each of them. They replied “mum, that’s an old scam, do t reply”. Thanks kids, I never reply to msgs or phone calls from people I don’t know.

I unfortunately fell for the same scam although I searched the web for the name of their bank account name and found a site for a financial advisor which seemed to fit in with a possibility of being true as well as questions to the sender of the text. When I realised it was a scam I contacted the fraud division of my bank immediately and although the money had not left my account they were of no assistance in stopping or freezing the money until an investigation could be undertaken. No point in having a fraud division if they can not act immediately as in my case to stop the transaction. They only take information and tell you to that an outcome will take four weeks. All I received was a lecture from what sounded to be a young man. The bank were a total waste of time then and now. Reported to ACCC . Could not believe that I fell for it.

I had this happen to me. I simply asked if they could give me the correct original phone number. Of course they didn’t have it.

It doesn't hurt to be reminded of these ever more frequent scams and the way scammers operate.

Banks need to lift their game. I was caught out by a MyGov scam - I am new the the MyGov system - but was able to take action in cancelling my credit card BEFORE any loss of funds. My issue is that I was waiting on the phone for almost 25 minutes before the call was taken by a banking representative, valuable time that could have been used by the scammer to defraud me.

I had the same call. So I slid my hand down to check what was my collection, turns out for the last 67 years I was a maLe.
So I just dumped the email in the bin.
