Sandwiches

The crinkle of greaseproof paper, the brown bag lunch—who remembers those school days? Inside, a sandwich awaited, often camp pie with tomato sauce or Vegemite. By lunchtime, the bread was dry, but knowing Mum made it made it special. The best lunches ever!

Yes I remember the grease proof paper that my sandwiches were wrapped in. Somehow the peanut butter sandwiches always tasted better when wrapped in that paper.

I loved fritz and sauce and still do today.

My Mum used to pack the bread and butter sandwich with a banana on the side as banana sandwiches didn't travel too well. One day I looked in my lunchbox, ate the banana for recess and at lunchtime I thought Mum's forgotten to put anything in my sandwich! Dumb kid huh?

Any filling as long it had onion with it. Always loved onions, raw or cooked. My favourite was cheese and onion 😋😋😋

I remember the grease proof wrapping. We were poor, so I had dripping on toast for lunch.. Also, text books wrapped in brown paper as a cover..😞

Living in Melbourne....my Mum would wrap my Vegemite sandwiches in the gease proof paper....during the winter months my Grandfather who was my best friend in my junior years lived at home with us.... he used to walk to the school each lunchtime and bring me a hot pie and sauce, which I ate while we sat together and talked.....never missed a day, I so looked forward to lunchtimes with him.🤗

Vegemite, I was so over vegemite by 2nd class, my mother just didn't listen. You couldn't get caught throwing your lunch in the bin, so back home it went and I would toss it on top of the wardrobe. That lasted until the penicillin started smelling and nobody could workout where it was coming from, but they were discovered and I copped the strap and was asked why; and my reply was, "I don't like vegemite sandwiches, I told you everyday for a whole year". So then I got nothing at all and when I got home from school I got bread and dripping, which was much better than a vegemite sandwich.
