Rock legend teases Aussie comeback after long wait: 'I'm doing my best as we speak'

If you’ve been waiting for a sign that it’s time to dust off your old denim jacket, dig out your favourite E Street Band records, and start limbering up for a night of fist-pumping anthems—this is it!

The Boss himself has just dropped a tantalising hint that he and the legendary E Street Band could be heading back to Australia as soon as next year.

For many Aussie fans, it’s been a long, dry spell since Bruce Springsteen last graced our shores.

His most recent tour Down Under wrapped up in 2017, capping off a golden era that saw him visit three times in just four years—a treat considering the previous four decades only saw as many visits.

Since then, we’ve had to make do with spinning Born to Run and Thunder Road at home, reminiscing about those electrifying live shows.

But now, hope is on the horizon. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Springsteen shared: ‘I’m doing my best as we speak to get down there, hopefully next year sometime. I feel bad. I apologise to my Australian fans for not getting down [there] on this stretch, but I want them to know that we are planning to get down there as soon as feasible, probably in the next year sometime.’

That’s right—The Boss is making it clear that Australia is firmly on his radar.

And after more than two years of relentless touring across Europe and the US, culminating in a massive show at Milan’s iconic San Siro stadium, it seems he’s ready to bring the magic back to Aussie stages.

Springsteen’s current tour, rebranded as the Land of Hope and Dreams tour for its European leg, kicked off in February 2023 in Florida.

It marked the band’s first major outing since 2017, with the long break partly due to Springsteen’s acclaimed Broadway solo run and, of course, the global disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reflecting on the hiatus, Springsteen said, ‘We had been off for six years. I had to reconnect with my audience, and it was enjoyable playing with the band. In the future, I think we’ll probably play more often and less dates.’

For fans, that could mean more frequent opportunities to see The Boss live, even if the tours are a bit shorter.

Aussie fans have always had a special place in Springsteen’s heart—and vice versa.

His marathon concerts here are the stuff of legend, with three-hour-plus sets, spontaneous song requests, and a palpable sense of connection with the crowd.

If you’ve ever been lucky enough to attend one, you’ll know there’s nothing quite like singing along to Dancing in the Dark with thousands of fellow fans.

But that’s not all that’s brewing in the world of Bruce Springsteen.

Next week, he’s set to release Tracks II: The Lost Albums—a treasure trove of seven full-length, previously unheard albums.

For die-hard fans and music historians alike, this promises to be a fascinating glimpse into the creative process of one of rock’s greatest storytellers.

And if that’s not enough to get your heart racing, Hollywood is about to shine a spotlight on Springsteen’s formative years.

The upcoming biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, is set for release in October and is already generating Oscar buzz.

The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White stars as a young Springsteen, capturing the pivotal moment when he recorded his seminal album Nebraska on a humble four-track in his bedroom.

The film delves into the challenges and triumphs of Springsteen’s early career, his complicated relationship with fame, and the family dynamics that shaped his artistry.

The cast is stacked with talent, including Jeremy Strong as producer Jon Landau, Aussie actress Odessa Young as love interest Faye, and Paul Walter Hauser as engineer Mike Batlan.

The trailer even features White belting out classics like Born to Run—no lip-syncing here, as Springsteen himself has given White’s singing his personal stamp of approval: ‘He sings well, he sings very well.’

For many of us in the Seniors Discount Club, Springsteen’s music has been the soundtrack to our lives.

His songs capture the hopes, struggles, and dreams of everyday people, and his live shows are a celebration of resilience and community.

Whether you first heard him on a scratchy vinyl record or discovered him later in life, there’s something timeless about his message.

And let’s be honest—there’s nothing quite like the thrill of seeing a living legend in the flesh.

The energy, the stories, the sense of being part of something bigger than yourself—it’s an experience that stays with you long after the final encore.
