'Ripping us off': Shopper left fuming after discovering 'underweight' meat purchase
- Replies 11
It's no wonder that as the cost of living increases, ordinary Australians are keeping a tight eye on food prices and expecting better bang for their buck. Every dollar counts, and so does every gram!
That's why it's not hard to imagine just how unhappy this Woolworths customer was when she realised the package of meat she recently bought weighed far less than she expected.
In a scathing (and now-deleted) post on the Woolworths official Facebook page, the outraged shopper posted a photo showing two pieces of rump steak that, according to her digital scale at home, only weighed a combined 213 grams instead of the 404 grams they were supposed to be.
'Hey Woolworths, what's the deal here?' she wrote in the caption, adding: 'As if we don't notice inflation enough with a standard shop, you're now ripping us off.'
According to the shopper, she wouldn't have made a big deal out of it if only a few grams were missing, but when nearly half of the advertised weight was gone, it was unfair to the customers who didn't know they were not getting their money's worth.

The woman's post on social media garnered a lot of attention from many of her fellow Woolies shoppers, several of whom commented and said they knew how frustrating her situation was. Others were also very understanding and felt the same way.
'Omg, that is infuriating!' one user wrote in the comments, with a few others sharing similar sentiments.
Even though soak pads are typically included in the weight advertised, another user pointed out that it is still quite awful to have about half of the package gone. In response, the woman said that there were no soak pads in the steak packaging.
Shoppers have previously complained about the weight of Woolworths meat goods, so this woman is not the first to have an issue with the weight of her purchase.
Just earlier this year, we wrote about another shopper who was upset that her Woolies mince was 132 grams lighter than what was stated on the packaging. That's quite a huge difference!

As soon as the woman posted her complaint on Woolworths' Facebook page, a representative apologised and assured her that she could bring back the item for a complete refund or replacement.
'We're disappointed to see this. This will be escalated to our products team so they are aware and can investigate the issue,' the spokesperson commented in response.
'Please know that we have a Fresh or Free guarantee, so if you're ever unsatisfied, you may take the product packaging along with your receipt back to our service desk, and our lovely team will cheerfully provide you with a full refund and replacement.'
Inflation's effect on commodity prices is being felt by everyone, and we are no exception; as a result, we all need to be more mindful and selective in our purchases.
