REVEALED: Long-time secret of Woolies workers on figuring out product prices

Have you ever wondered how the deli workers at Woolies figure out the prices of your products? They couldn’t have memorised them all, could they?

Well, it turns out that they have a ‘secret’ that they don’t want anyone to find out…

Sharing on their official TikTok account, Woolworths has finally unveiled the long-hidden ‘secret’ of their deli workers and butchers and how they accurately determine the price of their items.

They are great and fantastic at their jobs, but they do not have a superhuman memory to memorise the price for every product!

Turns out, each ticket in the store’s displays of fresh meat, seafood, small goods and antipasto sections has a ‘secret’ message at the back.

If you look closely at the back of the tag, it has a special code for the item which Woolies workers enter on the scale to determine the pricing of the customer’s order.

Now all that’s left for them to do is to put the product on top and weigh it, then the price tag will automatically come out of the machine. “Then we wrap it up and it’s good to go,” said the staffer in the video.

The supermarket also added the caption: “Who else was today years old when they worked this out?”

Well, we certainly are!

The video amassed over 150K views in a span of a few days, with Woolies shoppers and staffers alike flooding the comments section.

Many customers admitted that they only found out about the ‘secret’ codes through the clip, and one even joked that he “doesn’t mind” the codes being switched around.

“Yeah, can I get a rib fillet but just use the ham code? Cheers,” he wrote.

“I thought you guys just guessed everything,” another added.

Meanwhile, several Woolies workers, particularly those who are working (or used to work) in the deli section confessed that their ‘secret’ has finally been revealed.

“You can’t tell everyone our secrets!” said one.

A second said: “I was telling everyone I had a super fantastic memory for years and they believed me!”

So, were you also today-years-old when you found out about this secret?

And do you know any other secrets hidden to us by supermarkets? Share them with us in the comments!

What a cheat!! When I was a kid and paying my way through college I worked on the deli counter of a very famous English supermarket. We had to remember all the prices, all the weekly specials and any clearance prices. It was just what you did.:)

OMG..talk about sensationalism! This is NOT a secret....Woolworths hasn't FINALLY revealed it's BIG secret...it was just a deli worker with time on their hands and their mobile phone! How else do you think they know what to input into the scales....sheesh! Next we will have someone reporting a BIG secret with the RF units used that can see what is on special the following week! It's all to do with the job...no biggie secrets!🤦‍♀️

When my daughter was 4, she asked the deli lady if she memorised all the prices to enter the correct amount.
My daughter knew the scales were automatic, but she watched the lady type in a code.
The lady showed my daughter the code on the back of the tag.....
