Recipe for a healthier version of Macca's McChicken wrap!

Rarely have the words 'McDonald's' and 'healthy' been used in the same sentence.

Although it has taken huge steps in that direction, the fast food chain is still not among the first choices for customers who are looking for a nutritious meal.

Let's just say that people still have mixed feelings about how healthy Macca's menu items really are…



But that doesn't mean we have to give them up!

For those of you who are like us and are huge fans of Macca's meals, there are a variety of ways in which we can enjoy these treats without the added bad stuff that comes with them.

And one way to do that is by simply cooking up a 'healthier' version at home.

Here, a health and fitness coach helps by sharing her recipe for a healthier version of Macca's famous McChicken wrap. Wraps and salads may seem like the healthier option at the fast food restaurant, but we all know that they still come with extra carbs and calories.

A Macca's wrap is said to have 430 calories and 1130 mg of sodium.

That is why Bec Hardgrave came up with a recipe so that you can count the nutritional value of the meal yourself! This fakeaway version only has 283 calories and is packed with protein at 23 grams.

Here's how to make it:



Ingredients:

For the aioli:
  • 15g mayonnaise
  • 15g Plain Greek Yoghurt - Bec used Plain YoPro
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Lovers Seasoning
For the wrap:
  • Woolworths Wholemeal Wrap
  • Lilydale Chicken Breast Tender (available at Coles)
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato


And here's what you need to do:
  1. Start by making the sauce. Throw some mayo, yoghurt, and garlic salt into a bowl and mix it all up. Then, set the mixture aside for later.
  2. Now it's time to cook the chicken. Simply pop one chicken tender into the oven for 15 minutes or an air fryer for the same amount of time until it is golden and crispy.
  3. Once your sauce is ready and the chicken is cooked, all that's left is to assemble the dish. Spread some of the sauce down the centre of a flat whole-wheat wrap. Then, pile the chicken strip, tomato slices, and chopped lettuce on top of each other.
  4. Roll it up like a burrito and enjoy!
