We first renovated our home 20 years ago and used builders who removed any asbestos and did it properly.

Before renovating your need to get a professional in to check for asbestos .

Your fuse box is the one which may still contain it.

A friend worked with asbestos and died a quick but horrible death because of asbestos. They had found it behind his lungs and a hard place to find.

It should be against the law to sell a property that has asbestos. The government seems to want to CONTROL everything.
 
I have been renovating houses for 54 years and have probably been exposed to asbestos more times than I care to mention, having not known so at the time.
It all started when my wife and I had very recently married, bought my grandmothers matchboard wood and iron house which was close to being condemned, and spent 14 years "rebuilding" it!
I'm a Fitter by trade but I learnt a LOT of skills from lots of other friends in various trades such that I'm still doing casual renovation work for f
 
Very old houses in the very inner suburbs of Sydney, high demand for them, are complete ramshackles.
When they go up for auction, they are selling for anything upto $300k's above reserve for anything towards & well over $200-$250m each.

One would have to ask the "?", how much asbestos would there be hidden therein? I feel that many unsuspecting people may well be putting their families & selves at high risk.

I feel that when any of theses types of properties go up for sale, a full 'DANGER/ASBESTOS' report should be provided to all respective buyers with a removal costing also provided with the report.

An article in the Real Estate section of last weeks issue of the Sunday Telegraph, where an elderly lady who owned a Federation (duplex)house in Alexandria. After she passed away, her niece said that she just sat in a chair in the loungeroom & didn't go into the bedrooms. The floor was all rotted, the stench overpowering & mould abundant.

The hubby & wife bought the place in '77 for $21k. The joint was sold at auction after a vendor bid of $2.5M from the residue of the family.

Again, how much asbestos would be present when that house was actually built & is still prevalent.
