Prioities!

It's Sad, But As I Get Older, I Think Differently.
After a long day on the golf course,
I stopped in at Hooter's to see some
friends and have some hot Wings and iced tea.
After being there for a while,

one of my friends asked me which waitress
I would like to be stuck in an elevator with.
I told them "The one who knows how to fix elevators".
I'm old, I'm tired, and I pee a lot.
😄

Why! You are criticising the person that sent the joke in with no guarantee it would ever be used. Why not complain to the staff member that decided to include it
Not criticizing the sender of joke - just wondering why the bad jokes are included!!!!

American jokes should be edited prior to publication to replace US-centric words with appropriate Australian equivalents to avoid the needless waste
of time in questioning the meaning of the unknown US words.
Dougal get over yourself they are in Australia

I am fully in support of your suggestion, and refer to yesterday's item on the decline in Australia of English grammar.

If you are going to be picky about grammar, shouldn't your sentence read "I am fully in support of your suggestion, (delete the unnecessary comma) and refer to yesterday's item on the decline of English grammar in Australia? Just asking...

Seriously, the decline of English grammar in Australia has little or nothing to do with a joke referencing an American business. For goodness' sake, if you don't know the meaning of an unknown word, American or not, just google it or look it up in a dictionary. It takes less time to do that than it takes to whinge about it. You might just learn something. You might even broaden your outlook on life.

What about people who did not know that?
They can google it - it only takes a few seconds to find out. Or are you against the opportunity to learn something new?

It is unreasonable to assume that, because something is American, the average Australian won't understand it. You are underestimating your fellow Australians. Just because you are uninformed, it does not mean everybody should accommodate you or be subject to your form of censorship.

You must really hate Australian television because its content is largely American.

P.S. I don't know if you have been informed of this but when you write your posts in BOLD, it's considered shouting at people and very bad manners.

A joke issued in the public arena should not require any research to be performed so as to get the joke.

In this case the word "Hooters" should have been replaced by a non specific term such as "restaurant"

That would have prevented this total waste of everyones time in needless dialogue.

Well, that's a "rule" I've never heard before. Seems to me that if you don't get a joke and have to research it, it's a great opportunity to learn something new and broaden your mind.

The code of conduct and protocols adopted globally by comedians includes a clause whereby a joke must be able to be "got" by all without anyone needing to ask questions.

Well, I'm Australian and I understood it perfectly. There's enough racism in the world without petty people objecting to an innocent joke because it commits the cardinal sin of referring to a world outside of Australia.

Thanks for the joke, Skipton. Some of us have a sense of humour and aren't narrow-minded.
I agree with you. Also if something was mentioned and I didn't know the meaning I could easily look it up. It never hurts to learn something new.
