Prince Charles drowses off during Barbados republic ceremony

Prince Charles was spotted drowsing during the special ceremony of the declaration of the Barbadian Republic at Bridgetown, Barbados on Tuesday evening.
The 73-year-old King in waiting was in attendance at the ceremony as Barbados cut ties with the Royal Family, removing Queen Elizabeth II as the head of state.

At the stroke of midnight on Tuesday, the Caribbean country would officially become a new republic. Hundreds of people lined up at Chamberlain Bridge in the capital, Bridgetown, to celebrate the proclamation.
However, it seems that despite the dazzling display of Barbadian dance and music, the late ceremony may have gotten the better of Prince Charles as he appeared to doze off during the celebration.
In a video circulating online, the future king was spotted sitting on a chair with his head bobbing down before it finally drops for a few seconds. Charles immediately got back up to enjoy the festivities, suggesting that he may have realised that he’d fallen asleep.

The future king said in his speech: "The creation of this republic offers a new beginning."
"From the darkest days of our past and the appalling atrocity of slavery which forever stains our history, people of this island forged their path with extraordinary fortitude."
Queen Elizabeth II has also sent her congratulatory address to the Barbadians. saying that they have held a special place in her heart.
In her note, the Queen said: "I send you and all Barbadians my warmest good wishes for your happiness, peace and prosperity in the future."

One of the notable people in attendance at the ceremony was Barbadian singer Rihanna, who was declared a national hero by the new republic.
Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced that the singer would be conferred with the honour of National Hero of Barbados, noting that the 33-year-old's humanitarian work, contribution to music and business, and influence as an ambassador for culture and youth have made Barbados known to the world.
"May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honour to your nation by your works, by your actions," Mottley told Rihanna, referencing the singer's 2012 chart-topping single 'Diamonds'.
