			How true. A comma can change the whole meaning. Powerful little things.
Are you reading this SDC?Double meaning, no doubt!! But I agree, commas, hyphens, spellings and, most importantly, correct pronunciation & usage of words like ‘brought instead of bought’ go a long way.
 
 
		
				
				
			I take exception to criticism of the Australian education system. Our universities are highly regarded and sought after by overseas students.Even though this is posted as a joke, I am a proper language Nazi when it comes to the English language. Besides it being my top subject at school, I was also a proofreader for a professor at a Hospital University, who had numerous publications in various medical posts. Bear in mind we had no spellcheck in those days.
I love the challenge and am proud to say my two kids, the eldest fortunately schooled outside Australia and the younger was taught English by me in 6 weeks from scratch, winning the reading prize at school 6 months later.
They both excelled in the subject at university, making me look like an amateur.
Sadly, I find the English language in Australia is poorly taught and used, even on TV.
