Popular vehicle recalled amid fears of exploding seatbelts – is yours affected?

It seems that the recall trend is stepping out beyond food items and children's toys. Thousands of cars from a popular vehicle company have been recently pulled from the market after serious concerns were raised.
Just this week, the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications issued a recall of 5,211 Hyundai i30 Sedans (CN7) from 2020 to 2022.
‘Due to a manufacturing issue, the seat belt pre-tensioner inflator may fracture when deployed in the event of an accident.’ the authority explained.
‘If the seat belt pre-tensioner inflator fractures, metal fragments may be propelled at high speed towards the vehicle occupants, causing serious injury.’

According to Science Direct, seat belts are designed with pre-tensioners that tighten the seat belt to the occupant during vehicular crashes. This recent feature prevents the occupant from injuries associated with car crashes.
However, when they are worn incorrectly or have defects, to begin with, they have the potential to expose occupants to greater risks of injury.
Hyundai Motor Company Australia will be reaching out to the owners of the recalled vehicles in writing to request an appointment be made with their preferred authorised Hyundai dealership. This is mainly to have the component inspected and rectified.
