Smoked fish lovers beware! A range of smoked fish items have been urgently recalled across the country after traces of a harmful pathogen were found.
The recall was due to the discovery of listeria in five food products manufactured by Harris Smokehouse, according to a report released on Tuesday by Product Safety Australia. The bacteria can cause flu-like symptoms, such as fever, chills, stiff neck, vomiting, and mental confusion to consumers.
The recalled products include hot smoked barramundi, hot smoked trout blackening spice, everyday smashed smoked salmon, premium smoked salmon, and smoked salmon trimmings.

• Hot smoked trout blackening spice: barcode: 9345902000606 – 150g, use by 1/8/2022 through to 4/8/2022
• Everyday smashed smoked salmon: barcode: 9345902000552 – 150g, use by 20/7/2022 through to 28/7/2022
• Premium smoked salmon: barcode: 9345902000019 – 100g, 250g, 500g and 1kg, use by 18/7/2022 through to 8/8/2022
• Smoked salmon trimmings: barcode: 9345902000064 – 250g, use by 25/7/2022 through to 29/7/2022

Health authorities advised customers not to consume the products and immediately discard the items, pointing out that the bacteria found in the items can potentially pose serious health risks to people who are elderly, pregnant, or immunocompromised.
The authorities also noted that symptoms for those infected can last up to six weeks after exposure to the bacteria.
The products were sold in IGA and Foodland stores across all Australian states and territories besides Tasmania.
They were also available for purchase online.
