Carolina Mccauley, a mum-of-two from Perth, has shared a video on her Instagram page showing us her simple hacks for keeping half-eaten avocados fresher for longer.

Here are her methods:
Store the sliced-open avocado in an airtight container with onion
Carolina’s first hack is storing the open avocado in an airtight container and then placing one or two skinned onions inside as well.
Because onions contain sulphur, which slows down oxidation, avocados won’t turn brown for a lot longer than if they were to be stored alone.
Add lemon juice and salt to the avocado before storage
Her next trick involves squeezing a lemon and letting its juices flow into the avocado. Then, she sprinkled a little bit of salt as well.
Store in an airtight container, and it will guarantee you a fresh avocado even after a few days.
Leaving the stone in with smashed avocado
If you have leftover guacamole and want it to last for a couple more days, Carolina recommended placing the avocado pit on top before storing it in the fridge.
However, this method only prevents browning for the smashed avocado underneath the pit. The seed is supposedly eliminating contact between the guacamole and oxygen from the air.
The video was shared with Carolina’s 935,000 followers and has since been viewed more than 270,000 times. Many fans said they couldn’t wait to try the tricks.
One fan already did and said: “I tried the ‘stone’ trick, and it definitely keeps guacamole from browning so fast.”
Others also suggested their own ideas.
“You can also submerge it in a container of water,” one person wrote in the comments.
Another added: “You can also try wrapping the avocado in a damp paper towel, and it does the trick every time. The slight moisture keeps it from browning.”
One woman also suggested using the avocado skin, saying: “If you eat half an avocado, don’t throw away the skin - put it over the uneaten half. Works perfectly every time and saves space in the fridge.”
