Outrage ensues over Target's $100 dress: ‘I was super shocked’

We all love a good bargain, especially when it comes to clothing. Affordable retailers like Kmart and Target have long been our go-to places for stylish finds that won't break the bank.

But hold onto your hats, folks, because the latest news about Target's pricing strategy is enough to make you gasp.

Picture this: you're strolling through Target's fashion section, eyes peeled for your next favourite outfit, when you come across a dress that catches your eye. You take a closer look, and your heart sinks.

The price tag reads $100. Yes, you read that right. A $100 dress at Target? We couldn't believe it either!

The dress in question is the Preview Broderie Midi, and it's causing a stir among loyal Target shoppers. Known for its wallet-friendly fashion, Target has always been a favourite among bargain hunters.

But this sudden markup has left many customers feeling betrayed and bewildered. It's hard to imagine that our beloved budget-friendly retailer would suddenly charge such a premium for one dress!

When Australian shopper Sarah Strozkiy stumbled upon Target's $100 dress, she couldn't believe her eyes. Despite appreciating the high-quality make and chic design, Sarah was shocked to see a $100 dress in a store known for its affordable fashion.

As a self-proclaimed Target fan girl and fashion bargain hunter, Sarah took to social media to express her disbelief.

'I won't lie. I was super shocked to see a $100 dress in Target,' she shared with her followers. 'I know their quality has become so much better, and OMG, their designs are really chic. But as an OG Target fan girl, I still get shocked by their new prices.'

For years, Sarah has been sharing her fashion finds and juicy bargain steals with her followers. However, Target's recent pricing transformation has left her confused. While she acknowledges the improvements in the store's quality and design, she can't help but feel a bit taken aback by the new prices.

She also wonders if Target will become the next high-end brand in a few years, a far cry from its origins as a store selling budget-friendly clothes.

'It's so weird to think back in the day when Target clothes were so cr*ppy and $10,' Sarah mused. 'Who else is an original Target lover?' She added, expressing her nostalgia for the old Target, where finding a fashion bargain was the norm.

Sarah's followers have also expressed their concerns over Target's pricing strategy, with many sharing similar sentiments. One follower commented, 'Absolutely noticed a MASSIVE jump in price. I love their things, but I absolutely do not think it's worth it.'

While another follower proclaimed, 'Um, absolutely not!'

These comments reflect the frustration of many loyal Target customers who have come to expect affordable fashion from the store. As Target continues to move towards higher-priced items, it risks alienating its core customer base.

Despite the concerns raised by customers over Target's pricing strategy, a spokesperson for the store has reassured customers that they remain committed to offering affordable fashion.

'We are committed to offering customers quality products for every need and budget,' the spokesperson said.

'Within our women's wear range, in particular, we offer a wide variety of products starting at just $8 for a cotton T-shirt. The price points of our dresses, including this dress from our Preview collection, range between $40 and $100.'

The spokesperson added that Target hopes to provide an extensive offering that caters to every customer's individual needs. This statement suggests that Target is aware of its customers' concerns and is working to balance its pricing strategy with its commitment to affordable fashion.

Key Takeaways

  • Retail giant Target has left many customers reeling after the store began offering high-priced clothing items, including a dress priced at $100.
  • While some customers appreciate the store's improved quality and design, others are concerned that Target is losing sight of what made it popular in the first place: affordable fashion.
  • However, a Target spokesperson has reassured customers that the store remains committed to offering quality products at every price point, hoping to provide an extensive offering that caters to every customer's individual needs.

Target has long been a favourite among budget-conscious fashionistas, but recent changes to the store's pricing strategy have left many customers scratching their heads. While some are excited about the store's new focus on higher-quality fashion, others worry that Target is losing sight of its roots.

What does this mean for budget-conscious shoppers? Are we losing the ability to find affordable fashion, or is it simply a matter of adjusting our expectations? After all, as Target's spokesperson noted, the store still offers plenty of affordable fashion options.

So, what do you think? Have you noticed the shift in Target's pricing strategy? Do you think it's worth it to invest in higher-quality fashion, even if it comes at a higher cost? Let us know in the comments!

NO thank you. I can buy beautiful affordable clothes at TEMU and SHEIN and KMART or I wait for clothes to go on specials. I just bought and received a beautiful, excellent quality dress at TEMU ! for $20.00 ..... free postage and I received it a week after I ordered it.

Target has had a "designer" range of women's clothing for more than a decade - Paul McCartney's designer daughter comes to mind. So I find it odd that a $100 dress would be a surprise. I don't like the look of the dress by the way.

I would not buy this dress. But I have no need to I would prefer something I made myself. But about the price you need to go to a fabric store and see the price of fabrics, this dress probably uses around 4 metres of fabric possibly costing around $20 maybe more per metre and then there is thread and pattern plus time to construct so the price tag is what it would most likely cost for me to make it.
The dress in question does not look very flattering either

Maybe target should have a separate section for high end clothes

As for this particular dress I wouldn't wear it if it was given for free !
I tend to agree here. Doesn’t look any more fashionable than a couple of K-mart dresses. ??

I just did an order from Temu and I ordered 3 dresses and they were horrible, the quality was so poor and nothing like the picture . I've been buying on line for ages and I have to say this was the worst buy ever.
I paid $88 for the 3 dresses luckily I was able to send back for a refund , hopefully there is no problem with actually getting it

We did order garden stuff as well was ok but also not that good of a quality

Most Temu items I’ve seen advertised cost under $10 each. Not likely to be haute couture at those prices. 👎

The difference is these are made in China and made in bulk so will be near nothing to make.

I worked in a bridal store who had their own brand, the dresses were made in China and superb quality. The cost price they paid were under $200 the wholesale price to other shops that sold our dresses highest price $900 , the price to customers $2000 plus
