Out of the ordinary..?

We have these Aggies coming up in our garden. I've never seen any this high before, is this an uncommon thing? That fence is about 6' 4" high so despite still growing, they are both about 6'+ high at this stage. The last pic shows the ones we normally have and they are not the large variety but it will give you an idea of the size difference.

Wow, never seen an Agapanthus that big - at 6"4 it's as tall as I am :)

Side note - I always thought it was 'Agapantha' (plural 'Agapanthas'), but clearly not: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agapanthus

Thanks for replying Jon, yes very weird I thought...:)

Any significant change in fertiliser use over the last year? Seem like they are in good ground.

No, nothing new. In fact the soil here in the Village is pretty awful...used to be a market garden but when they built the Village they sold all the good top soil..

Maybe it's a garlic plant, self-sown.
They grow very very tall, and look like an agapanthus flower until they burst open.

Hi JayKay, no they are aggies, we planted them and they have now bloomed...:)

Unbelievable! I’ve never seen an Aggie that tall. Are you sure it’s an Aggie? Could it be a Allium which is related to the Aggie but taller?

The Allium family of vegetables includes garlic, onions, leeks, chives....
Garlic grows like agapanthus.

No, definitely aggies, we bought them from our nursery. Just took these pics...others in the second shot never went that high...

Wow! Impressive. You should take a measurement and see if there is a record for the tallest ever Aggie😂

We're in a retirement village and it's by far the tallest here...our neighbour has some white ones that are pretty tall but ours beat hers by a good 3-400mm..
